Just joined and could use smoe help . Have a 58 Buick with a fkightpitch ****** . ****** works fine but leaks like crazy for about 20 minutes and loses about 3 quarts . A rebuild is basically out of the question as there are few parts available for this two year experimental unit . Replacing this unit with a dynaflo is an option but it is no fun driving such a slush bucket . Would like to consider installing a different ******, like a 350, and eliminate the closed drive shaft . Would grteatly appreciate any advice , especially availability of adapters to mesh the 364 nailhead to a modern transmission , and availability of crossmembers to seat a modern ****** in this frame , and more . Looking forward to some input . Thanks in advance . Phil
The dynaflow and flight pitch use the same torque tube seals, where the front pump seal is different for 58 Flight pitch, but the same as 59 3t dynafllow. Both front pump seals are readily available from NAPA. What I did was to use the TIMKEN SEAL catalog for cross reference of the OEM #. It then gave a TIMKEN # which u can cross reference to the NAPA#.
Thanks for the reply . It seems yoiu are familiar with these beasts . The ****** is leaking from the front . Are you saying that the front pump seal is probably the problem ? Is there a bushing that wears that could result in the leak . Thanks again for the input . Am looking forward to discussing this prblem further with you if you don't mind . Is this the appropriate place on this website to post the elimination question ? Would really like to salvage this unit but thought that there was no hope . Again , thanks .
