I'm Erika. I don't know a lot about cars or what it takes to restore a classic model, but I want to learn, and that's why I'm here. I've been fascinated with early 50s models since childhood. But it doesn't stop at cars. I'm in love with all aspects of style that descend from the postwar era, but especially the cars.
So I've been searching for the right car that my dad and I could fix up. We recently purchased a '53 Belvedere (or so we think, but it's possibly a Cranbrook.. emblem is missing and title does not specify model.) I'm sure someone here will be able to help us decipher.

My dad has worked on engines his entire life, as a hobby and as a career, but restoration is something he's never gotten into. This is a project we are going to work on together. My role is going to be more involved in research and locating parts. I'm the internet savvy one, needless to say.

I'm joining this community to network with other people who have knowledge and advice to lend! I'm excited to meet you all!

Welcome erica from MI and NM. YOu picked the right place to come to for learning. Don't be afraid to ask question (of course search first). the Build posts here are awesome. You learn things you weren't even looking for and the work looks tops. I am glad to hear that you share this with you dad. I live to far away from mine. So i build for my son.

Thanks! When we picked up this car last week, I googled first thing. I thought it would be simple enough to find out what type of car it was. In my mind, it was one of two models. Then I found even more Plymouth models that are so similar, I was more confused than I had started out. I stumbled across this website just yesterday, and I do believe with the help from the feedback I've already received, we have nailed the model and year of the car.

I thought at first I would probably get laughed at for not knowing what type of car I had.. but then I realize some members of the forum were also seemingly stumped, so I don't feel so bad.. It's the details that really differentiate. I am very gracious for the knowledge and advice.

I'm really looking forward to spending time with my dad most of all. The older I get the more I realize the importance of it because I am sure going to miss him one day!

I bought if from a guy in Mayodan but he had just recently purchased it but I'm not sure where. So maybe it originally came from Albemarle?
