So I have a squarebore dual plane edelbrock performer manifold and a spreadbore Edelbrock carb. For the life of me I cant find an adaptor to make it work or even a part number. The parts stores arent helping. Anybody have a manufacturer or a part number. I can find stuff going the other way and stuff for single plane intakes but nothing for my application
you have a spreadbore Edelbrock carb? Most Edelbrocks I've seen are squarebores.. I haven't seen everything though. check out this link: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/install_items/adapters_spacers.shtml Ive seen some in big chain auto parts stores too... look in the section where they sell the dress up stuff. (valve covers, air cleaners, etc...) Some are made to go from square to spread, or flip it over and go from spread to square...
yeah, the carb is spreadbore, and I have already looked that website over. The closest one is the top one but it is for a single plane and I have a dual plane. I have been to every local auto parts store and havent had any luck. it might be easier to look for a new intake
Usually you just flip the adapter over and it works the other way. The bigger question to ask yourself is, why go through all the trouble and expense of a better manifold and carb, only to muck it up with a restrictive adapter? Get a carb that matches the manifold, or vice versa.
Got a pic of that carb? I haven't seen an edelbrock spreadbore either. Almost all the Edelbrock carbs have larger rear bores but that doesn't make them a spread bore. If it will fit the manifold and the rear barrels open all the way then your good.
I agree with Joe - sell or trade either the carb or the manifold and get ones that work with each other. If you really GOTTA use them both for some reason, I believe I have an aluminum adapter in my garage with the four holes (not just the big open space) and if I do you can have it for postage cost because I don't plan to ever use it. Try eBay? I typed in "carb adapter" and found this one in 10 seconds for $15. It's what you need to accomplish what you want. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Spec...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43a14c16ec
Talked to an edelbrock tech and I am out of luck. They do not make an adaptor that will work with my carb and intake. I would either have to buy a single plane intake with an adaptor or a new carb since the do not make spreadbore intakes for 289. The carb I have is edelbrocks quadrajet replacement. I know you don't see a whole lot of them but it came with the car.
lol, Edelbrock has made Q-jet's for a long time... http://www.carburetion.com/Rochester.asp there are some pics.
What lobuc said: If it will fit the manifold and the rear barrels open all the way then your good. So I am still wondering if your carb will bolt to your intake.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
Why not make one of the four hole adapters work? A little grinder work on the adapter shouldn't be that hard. Try the open adapter that matches both intake and carb, then find a way to close off the center with epoxy or a strip of aluminum. How about a making a wood adapter, its easy to cut and works really good, plus you won't ever have a hot carb problem. Same with the hard black plastic type spacers. You can even open up the sides of the intake to clear the secondary's if the carb will bolt on. Joe
There ya go...I stand corrected. You might consider picking up a good core square bore edelbrock carb. The rebuild kits are cheap, and they are super easy to re-do. I've done a few and had less than 100 bucks in them including the kit and the bucket of chem-dip.
Yeah, I am going to just go with a square bore carb. I have looked into making one of the adaptors work and I have read tech sheets on people doing it but it seems like a pain in the *** and kinda hillbilly(no offense to any hillbilies). I was just trying to go the cheap route becasue I was planning on getting rid of the car soon.
Okay, not to be Captain Obvious but I just found the adapter you need on eBay AND posted the damn link! Buy it, put it on your car, and be happy. (And yes, the adapters work both ways - just flip it over to adapt a Quadrajet carb to a square-bore manifold.)
And for whatever it's worth...Offenhauser used to make adaptors for just about any combination imaginable, and had a large chart in the catalog sorting out all the bolt and hole patterns. Most Offy stuff, but not all, remains available new, and someone on the HAMB is a dealer.
The Offy part number is either 5596 or 5597, depending on the bolt pattern on your manifold. Before you call someone to order the adapter, measure the center-to-center bolt spacing side to side on your manifold, and have that information available. Don't expect any engine to run very well with a square to spread or a spread to square. Best to change the manifold or carb. Good luck. Jon.
I have one If its the holley quadrajet adapter The runners are offset ,If thats what you need 25.00 shipped Its new and in my attic .
