I just picked up a 1962 Olds F85, and it's got the 4GC on it, I need a set of floats, anyone know where I can find some? I've called every carb shop and parts house within 30 miles of me and so far no luck....Driving this pile to Bakersfield in 6 weeks is looking harder every day
Rochester used at least 19 different floats in the various 4-GC carburetors. Some of them are only available in used carburetors. The most difficult to find is one of the primary floats used in some of the late 1950's early 1960's that has a small "horse-shoe" on the float arm which works in conjunction with the power piston spring. When ordering floats, IT IS IMPERATIVE that they are ordered by carburetor tag number. Jon.

The Rochester 4G doesn't actually float, but toss it in the river anyway and replace it with a Holley. They made a 4G for about everything, and they're all different. Actually not that bad a carb but like I said, no 2 are alike it seems. Anything over a standard rebuild kit and you'll need a really good parts guy to sort it out. Like mentioned above, the tag number and what car it came off of to get a start.
Thanks for the info guys, I would love to replace this carb with something else, just cant afford it right now. I got one local lead on a guy that has a few of em. And I do need the one with the horseshoe deal...Search continues
