HAHAHA, I've been waiting a long time to resurrect the Street Beast anthem. This was posted by flt-blk many moons ago:

Here is a sad fact IMO. The SHAY is a 25 year old "vehicle", if RESTORED to as new condition the AACA will allow it on the field at the HERSHEY MEET.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there were a lot of Shays available as rentals in tourist hot spots.

Hey 'Slick', Don't get your bowels in an uproar, I am just curious! I saw one for sale pretty cheap about 10 years ago and thought for the kit car guys that this would be a quick and easy way to do it. I have never looked at one closely and didn't know if this was practical or doable. As for the 'fng' comment; don't ***ume because I am new to this forum that I am new to the car scene. Trust me I ain't no 'dude'...

  6. Well said... the guy has been driving it since the late eighties and has had more fun than a ***** at a Hardware convention.:D

It's all about the smile factor... and that quote made me smile!

Shays... gl*** T Buckets... 32-34 Fords and Gl*** Willy's don't bother me... they have their place.

It's not as bad as the guys that cobble up vintage cars with tractor parts... cooking utensils..., garbage cans... Spiderwebs... skulls and cross bones and think it looks traditional!

They have their place and that place is usually being owned by local non car people who want something that has the look of an old car but doesn't drive like one. Great for hauling the local political candidate in the town parade and great for hauling the grand kids to the ice cream store. Not so great if you expect to be able to build a hot rod out of one. The ones I saw when they were new were pretty crude as far as fit and finish and worksmanship went but the intended market didn't seem to mind. There is one around this area that has probably been driven in 300 local parades up and down the valley since it was built and the owner seems quite happy with it.

My dad was a Ford dealer back in the day and had a Shay roadster for a driver. I was pretty small back then, but it seems to me the proportions were different. I think they intentionally made them more practical. They actually had a little leg room, and were certainly more reliable for daily driving. They aren't too bad looking, in my opinion, as long as your not expecting it to mirror a model A. Pinto motors. For all you purist haters, keep hating. They definitely aren't an original model A, and were never inteded to be such. They were a "modernized" version of an old Ford cl***ic, built in partnership with Ford.

We took it on a family vacation one time. Dad, Mom, and baby sister in the front seat. My 3 older brothers in the rumbleseat, and me laying on the floor in the rumbleseat. No worries, it was only 3 1/2 hours to Grandma and Grandpa's house!:eek::eek: Served it's purpose.

I remember having my friends come over and we would slide down the front fenders like a playground slide. Back then, levi's had a little metal snap right at the top of your **** crack, and that thing would dig a scratch all the way down the fender each time we slid down it. Don't know how dad never beat me for that.....

Now that I think about it, a Shay may be a good project for my kids first driver. He want's a "rat rod" to drive to high school. I'm sure I could cut up a shay and make him a cheap driver.

While it's not a real hot rod and certainly not a replacement for a true model A, I think the shays are sort of cool for what they are. They're a cl***ic in their own right and with the right stance and wheels and tires it would make a cool cruiser. I'd drive one if someone gave it to me.

  13. If I can find another Shay body for $600 I'd build a caged drag car out of it...

  14. I believe that this was a Shay as well...
