Is anyone running split '40 front bones on a Model A w/o having to pie cut them? The rear of the bones seem to be hanging excessively low to keep the caster 6°±.
Pie cutting is the time honored way to get the correct amount of caster and keep the rear mounting point from being too low. I've seen some nice work done with fish plates on top of the cut for reinforcement.
Sorry the picture is not better but I am using these fish-plated bones on one of the cars we're doing right now.
You don't have em on there upside down do you? haha X2 what fogger said though...nice looking fishplate done right can add to the look of the bones. It depends on how you got it set up, but you could also make lower shock mounts on the inside fishplate to make it a more purposeful looking addition to the bones. Personally, I like the look of the bones running on the same angle, or as close as possible to the angle of the bottom of the framerail up at the front. I find the extreme kickup in the bones to be jarring looking. Going with a lower front spring would bring things a little closer in line and make for nicer lines. I'm running a low arch spring with reversed eyes and 40 split bones on a deuce frame. Looks absolutely perfect without modifying the bones. My 2 cents. Steve
Are you using spring above axle or stock, for '40, spring infront? On my old T bucket I used '40 wishbones with spring in front and I had the front spring and crossmember level to the frame and the wishbones automaticaly set the axle at 7*.
