I don't remember which thread I clipped this picture from but I'd like to learn more about this Coupe... any pictures and information are greatly appreciated. Gratis'
if I'm making out the side markings correctly, its Vintage Flathead Comp Coupe Gas, kinda hard to make out what it says in the small picture
Hmmmm, the results for Speedweek 2009 list car #723 as the Kowalski Special, XF/FR, which would be a vintage flathead roadster running fuel. OR I looked back a few years and in 2006 that car did run as XF/VGCC, Kowalski Special out of Reading PA. Looks like they got it up to 122mph that year.
Wow... it's been the topic of interest before here. Thanks for the info. Check out... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38912&page=2 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81614
Thanks again Steve... have I been seeing a bellypan all along rather than the chassis? All I've had to go on was the intial picture... which being tiny with a black car was making things tough to nail down... the '32 Ford shell and flatty weren't helping me either.
#723 has been their SCTA number for many, many years. It's been on all the cars EJ's built. I believe the coupe has been "retired" for at least 4 years.
That car has just about the most perfect stance and profile of any competition Model A I've ever seen...........awesome!! Frank
there is also some very bad news involved with this car. EJ,s father ED passed away this week . he was a good freind to me an my dad and we will miss him greatly. tom
Does anyone have pics of Ed's 32 Chevy cp. it was a metallic blue and had Mr. Chevrolet on the door he won abunch of races with that one. That would have been early 60's when he had the speed shop on rt. 422 below where the big wal-mart is now. shortly after the 32 Chevy he started building his first rail in that shop. i went in to buy solid lifters for my caddy engine and he was working on the rail, he looked up and said why you putting a caddy together for ,chevy the way to go now. even back then he had a shop full of young motor heads ,quess they all knew he was going places and being up there with the great ones.
As a new member to this message board I was interested to read Hank's post (August 30, 2010) regarding a desire to see more pictures of Mr. Chevy. I think that I can help in this regard! As a family relative I was raised hearing a variety of stories about this car, and needless to say, my Dad helped to build it since he grew up in Reading, PA on Cotton Street. How do I know this? Well, for starters, Ed was my father's uncle. Still doubting? Since joining this forum we have started talking about Mr. Chevy once again and have found what we think is the only original Polaroid picture still in existence. Here are some unique facts on the specs of this vehicle that my father has told me through the years, since this story comes up quite often. 32 Chevy Coupe - original, all metal, no alterations, engine 327, hilborn injection, 4-speed stick, rear 356, And finally, the original owner was Doug Schaeffer. Unfortunately, we do not know where the car currently is or what condition it might be in, but but my father's fond memories of this vehicle will keep the story in our family for years to come.
I have what is belived to be the original Hilborn injection unit off the mr. chevy coupe. I just need some clarification on what sbc was run in 1961. Any help?
