We have shipped approx 200 of the chevrolet/flathead convesion to very happy customers. A few of thes have been electronic units using a varity of electronic conversions.
Now we are doing a new electronic system using what i call "bubbatronics",
We use our same flathead chevrolet machined housing and add the chrysler reluctor and pick up coil and a GM HEI module mounted to the distributor housing.
    Makes a nice package.
Built one this morning with some pics.

Mount the module with a couple 8/32 screws..

Index and mount the pickup....more detail on this function and rotor phase later...

Painted and wired up. The small terminal side goes to the pick up coil. From there there are two wires , one to the negative coil and one to the positive.

Pretty clean set up for sure.....

Tested unit to verify rotor index and phasing under load.....

This makes sure the rotor is being properly triggered and spark is at the correct timing etc....

Do you offer the older style with this conversion? I've seen the Mopar conversion but I like the simplicity of the G.M. module.

I don't know about no fancy hitech electronics, but his FH GM points dizzy is sure working good in my roadster. Have sold a couple to other guys and they love them. I'd think about ordering another dizzy just to get some more hot sauce.

    What is the advance curve?

Most of our units are curved to 12 degrees (24 engine) at 2500-3000 rpm. This is a number we came up with on the dyno with our Bonneville flathead. The timing pin on the cover of the flatjeads is at 4 btdc and the additional 24 makes a perfect ( at least in our mind) 28 degrees of advance , pure mechanical .

We limit each cam with a br*** bushing and most (not all) GM cores are #724 which is 12 degrees of advance in the machined slot.

I polish ( with a br*** brush) the advance workings and lightly lube . Then use a silver and black spring ( most of the time this combo is perfect).
We can custom curve per customer but very seldom have the need. I just did one for a customer who had spark knock and lived in the mountains. Curved it at 10 degrees(20 engine) worked very well and solved his problem.....

    Yo Bubba,
The centrifugal advance Pertronix Chevy dizzy you sold me is fantastic in my 8BA/'36 Ford. How is your unit in this thread better or different?

    Actually doesnt differ much .
Our base conversions are all the same base, advance units, cap rotor etc.
Its all about what a customer needs or wants i guess.
I offer three units , all the same basic set up except i use three diferent packages. Each has a different wattage level of spark. Wattage = volts x amps. ( we ***ume all have 12 volts) Consider the electrical HP ( horse power)

1-Contact points , dwell is set at 30 degrees and we suggest a 1.5 resistor and a 1.5 ohm coil. system would have 3 ohms divided into 12 volts for a current level of three amps. Good steady spark at 36 watts.
Contacts last a long time and are easily replaced. Uses our stock mounting with orginal plate clamp to head.

2-Pertronixs, the new ignitior II is a much better product than ignitior I, offers a clean efffortless install and uses a 1.5 ohm coil as well, with or without the resistor. Uses existing wiring (12 volt) and produces approx 36 watts with electronic , no maintance service. Uses our stock monting with oeginal plate clamp to head.

3- GM HEI, One of the better electronic ignition controllers ever made. The HEI has a varing dwell cycle, 15 degrees at idle and increases with rpm, a low switching threshold ( approx .250 mili volts) and has been proven reliable through the years. Unit can run a stock coil or a suggested .5 ohm low resistance coil. At .5 ohms and 12 volts the current wants to be 24 amps! How ever the module have current limiting in them and typically limit the current to 5.5-6.0 amps. This causes a fast rise time (2.3 mili seconds) with a 72 watt power hit.) A bit more trouble on our end with Dodge reluctor and pickup coil. Uses a set screw on cover for hold down ( provided with unit)

So i guess its all about what the customer wants for their situation. All three run very well .

I have one of Bubba's distributors old school cast iron job for a SBC, and I am just days away from firing up the motor,
If the distributor works like it looks I will be a very happy fellow, and I have no doubt that it will work like a charm.
    Thanks
    Bubba

Bubba converted my old Pontiac V/8 Mallory dual point to electronic....haven't finished building the engine yet but can't wait to light it off with "Bubba-tronix".
My Grungy old distributor came back to me from Bubba bead blasted, clear coated and the pipe-wrench marks on the housing were buffed away and polished for me...great service!

  23. I am planning on doing the same with my SBC. I really like reading these threads Bubba, always learn something. Thanks.:)

Not only does he make them, he teaches too.
I went to his ignition cl*** and learned a lot.

In fact I did the same Chrysler reluctor and pickup coil conversion on a V8 Studebaker Dizzy.

ALWAYS REQUEST HOT SAUCE when you buy something from Bubba..... It's good stuff.

Bubba, I just bought a gmc 302 and it looks like one of your distributors on it. What cap and guts does this look like so I will know what to get parts for in the future. Thanks. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1409620165.154614.jpg
