Bunch of pix and info about Earle "Safari" Char and the Pflueger Comets at Hawaii Raceway Park in '64-66. Go to "Legends" index at Hawaii Motorbeat.com
    There's a 10-page story with B&W and color pix from Char's s****book.

George;did you and Six Gun meet up last weekend? Muttley;that drawing kinda looks like Judd's Comet!!!! I'm headed for a test session this Thursday, meeting up with my clutch guru to try and get the clutch setup right and see if the engine makes any more power now that cylinders should stay round!!! ROY.

TCI continues to test my patience with yet another converter that is ill fitting. This time, they got the hub correct, but now the mounting ring is of the smaller diameter hole pattern. The big flexplate leaves no room for re-drilling. I wish they'd watch what they are doing. The clock continues to click.
But, on a better note, famed SoCal Pinstriper and all around great guy Tom Clark has started to work his artistry and magic. The great thing about Tom is he listens to what you are aiming for, then throws in his many years of experiance in the era. He actually out-did what I wanted. He's just that good in my opinion, and some of you here that may already know him, or know his work would certainly agree with me!! By the way, when he was done, the shop floor was "paved with pure gold"!!!!!

  9. love the lettering, looks ace.

  10. The lettering looks great. The only torque converter problem I have had has been the different splines sizes on C4s. Never heard of a difference between pan fill and case fill. I have both and to check next time the trans comes out.

It seems now, that there were many small issues, of which may have been caught early on if I were more Ford savvy. The trans case was early C-4, but the bellhousing was a swapped in later unit, which led me to believe it was a larger size flexplate, which in turn made me order the incorrect converter. We balanced a large style flexplate with the engine, so yesterday, Bill Mizia sourced a small flexplate, and the correct bellhousing, and everything bolted up very smoothly with no h***les. It only took two weeks. Like I said, a steep learning curve.....

Can anyone recall the name of the company that makes the replacement rear transmission crossmember for our early C-4's? I recall a picture of one sometime in the past. I"ve had to modify the original stock one, with some new rubber. Well, actually old rubber that was cannibalized from the stock front suspension!!! It actually fit quite well!! Go figure.

  13. Here is a pic of the one I built.

Steve;it seems EVERY 64-65,V-8 powered Comet has a hipo 289 in it!!!! I like the ads that say,"original hipo with auto,ac,power brakes and power steering"!! I've done alot of research on these Comets and as far as I can tell none had any add ons, besides the engine,a 4-speed and a 9" rear,bolt-in tower braces and single exhaust,a**** a few other tell tale items. JMO,ROY.

There is nothing like a straight axle 65 going down the track. We need to get all these comets together somewhere.
