I got this one when I was 11 years old: Here's the current build thread on it: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=371150
my first car was an 88 camaro i had pretty much completely rebuilt. i gave it to a friend when i was in the Navy because he said he wanted to build a racecar, 2 weeks later it was sold. if i had known that i would never have given it to him and i would still have my first car. not HAMB friendly but after all of the time and money i spent on that car i sure do miss it.
My first car was a 66 Bonneville 2 door hard top. Have owned it now for 18 years, havent driven it for close to 10 years. Pullin it into the shop for a full re-work here in the next few weeks. Gonna build it the way I wanted to when I was young and had no money to dump into it.
I still have the original owners manual for my first car with the VIN typed in. It might be worth paying to have it searched to see if it still exists. It was a pretty rotted '67 Mustang I patched together. It was pretty tough so I figure it may have been s****ped long ago.
I still have my falcon ute I got when I was 16 and I have my 32 roadster that I started on when I was 13, so I luckily don't have to go too far to find my first hot rod or my first car.
First was a 58 Pontiac. Left it with the stepfather when I went overseas. Wasn't here when I got back to the world and He would never tell me what happened to it. Spotted it years later holding up the side of a pumice pit in the middle of a stack of flattened cars when I went there to site in a rifle. Still had my plate on it to confirm it.
My first , a 54 Mercury, got rear ended, the second, a 55 Ford Victoria, was sold to buy the third, a 56 T-bird. Last Dec 17th was 42 years I've owned it. Also have had my fifth, a 30 Ford coupe, for 40 years. I was told the kid I sold the 55 to rolled it.
I love this thread. Although I am only 18 and sold my first car (1955 Second Series Chevy Pickup) a couple years ago which I bought when I was 14 to a guy in Montana. He updates me with his restoration of it which is really cool and one day when I am done with college and have some money I hope I can buy it back from him.
Just have to go out to the garage.Been lucky enough to have a place to keep in indoors the last 26+ years.
Wow a 69 Torino. My second car is a 68 Torino fastback. I still have my first, yet it is a basket case now. 1967 Custom 2dr Sedan Ford.
I bought my first car when I was 13. I drove it for a year with a learners permit and then traded it to my brother for a 64 Biscayne right before my 16th birthday(needed something a little more reliable). My brother sold it to a friend, then it traded hands several times for a few years and ended up being parked outside(with the windows down) for about 10 years. About 3 years ago a buddy of mine got to talking cars with some guy at a bar one night. He found that the guy was the current owner of my car and he wanted to get rid of it. They struck a deal and my buddy bought her from the guy. A couple of days later he called me to come look at a new project he just picked up. I was pretty stunned when I walked in the shop and there sat my first car(although she was pretty sad looking at this point) and even more stoked when my buddy handed me the ***le and told me that he still had his first car, so I needed mine back. I have been slowly working on her ever since and hope to be driving her again by the end of the year. Here are a few pics of what she looked like back in the day, the day I got her back, and in her current state.
I still have my first car - a 56 chevy 2dr sedan belair v8 power pack overdrive car. I'm the third owner - My grandfather bought it brand new, my mom drove it to college, and I drove it to high school and the first 10 years in the Navy. I restored it in 1990, very poorly, and retired it in 2000 when the speedo rolled for the 3rd time. Currently it is resting in my brother's quanset, waiting to be restored properly this time.
Not my first but my 53 Merc 2 dr.ht.Flattie,3 on the tree w od. probably 3 chances of finding it 45 years later,SLIM,FAT and NONE!
My first car was sold to fund my first drag car. I miss it occasionally but I miss other cars a lot more. I'm sure by now it is a refridgerator or something. The guy I sold it to turned it in to a dirt track car after a couple of years. Only raced it for a season and s****ped it. As a side note the drag car it was sold for now belongs to a friend of mine with an open offer to buy back if I ever deide to.
Mine is in a leanto cattle shed. A 1963 Chevy pickup long narrow bed 283 power glide . It was my Grandpa's i drove it to highschool.
I don't have my first car - a 65 Rambler, but I still have the first car I bought when I started working - a 57 Chevy two door hardtop.
I still have my 66 Chevy truck, dad bought it when I was very young and drove it till I was about 10 then parked it. I started working on it when I was 12 and had it ready to drive when i got my license at 16. I drove it for 2 years and parked it when I went in the Air Force, told my parents to drive it but they didnt and it sat while I was in Germany for 2 years, when I came home it needed more work than what I had time to do between duty stations, so I sold it to a guy in the area who wanted it for his son. He drove it for a couple of years, and one time when I was home on leave I heard that it was sitting again so I told them that I would buy it back, bought it sight unseen for less than I sold it to them for. It is now dis***embled in my garage, trying to decide if I build it again or build my 56 Chevy Handyman Wagon.
My first car (that I actually owned) a 51 Mercury coupe is sitting about 30 miles away in a nice comfy garage with a 455 Olds under the hood and a very slick gun metal gray paint job. There are things I would have done different but the owner of it has done a nice job on the car and takes great care of it.
I know exactly what happened to mine. 1964 Chevelle Malibu. 283 & Powerglide. Owned it from 1974-2003 when it was stolen in Victorville California. A Crew In Adelanto specialized in Chevelle's and Impala's. They stole them, stripped them and sold the Parts at Pomona & Long Beach, EBay and Craig's List. They are still active so if in the Victor valley, Beware!
I bought my first car, 63 SS Nova, in 1984 when I was a Junior in High School. Always heard the stories of rodders wishing they had kept their first car and not wanting to make the same mistake. It's been 26 years now. Here it is in 88. Here it is in my backyard today.
I wouldn't want my first car back, a 72 Maverick with a 170 six, I hated it even though it was a new car (my folks helped me get it). Drove it till I was old enough to buy a car without parents signature, Maverick went down the road and I got a 68 Barracuda Formula S. Funny thing is a few weeks ago I was driving up a street and there sat my Maverick. I was shocked to see it still was around. Amazingly it looked like it had been in storage all these years, it looked exactly like it did when I sold it 35 years ago! Even every dent or scratch I had put in it was still the same (that's how I knew it was my old car, I wasn't kind to the pos). Got a real kick out of seeing it but had no desire to own it again. The Barracuda I had after that I would mind having in my garage again however! A couple years ago I saw a 56 Vicky hardtop I had in the 70's sitting in a wreaking yard. Recoganized it by the freched tailights and license plate I had done plus it still had remains of the black tuck & roll I had put in it. Life after me had not been kind to the Vic, the junkyard owner wanted stupid money for it so I left it there. If he wanted a realistic price for it I might of bought it back and rebuilt it. I really liked the car when I had it and had to sell it to pay a divorce lawyer so it would of been good therapy to get it back!
Mine was easy to find. It was out in the garage a few minutes ago. Bought it in 1965 and have restored it three times over the years.
