after driving my car to gettysburg, PA for the KOA show this year, my brother and I decided we would go ahead and chop my car before Lead East (this past weekend) instead of after as previously planned, so we started in the beginning of July. the last couple of weeks of August resulted in late nights at the garage to get the car as far along as possible before the show. Therefore I would like to put out a big thanks to my brothers jay and mikey, my cousin matt, and my friends Mooch and Ryan for helping me out.

more! (the fist pic with the fin mocked up is a fin from a pair that I got from Kustom7777 (thanks!), and i just used it as a mock up since they were already cut to fit a shoebox, i scored solid ones in a junkyard in PA, i also had to relocate my gas into my trunk.

we used little sections of the original windshield rubber to make the windshield template, then i brought it to a local glass plate to cut a new windshield for me, worked out well, the car still needs tons of bodywork, and i still have some things left to customize before it goes into paint...

im still up in the air with what i am going to do with a taillight, i still have to use round rod to make a finished edge on the fins, and most likely i will make a taillight, but for these 2 shows, i just threw in the stock lights just to get me there.

Got any pictures of it from the rear ? I thought about getting those fins for my 55 Ford but you beat me to them . They look really great !
I have a 49 & 50 fords tudors . I am not sure if I want to go that far with my 50 Ford that I am keeping . I might just sell the 49 or cut it up for a few parts then sell it off .
I would like to see some more pictures . I will have to look for it at the KOA in Gettysburg next summer !

Car looks great. FYI, that is a terrible place for your ground. You're welding through your wheel bearings at best, through carrier, or pinion bearing at worst. It's possible your getting an arc jumping a gap and damaging a bearing.

I really like the way it turned out . I just want to get the rear view . Just curious about the way a shoebox looks with fins from the rear . Your's is the first I have seen done that way . As someone else said , You make the chop look way too easy ! I really like the way your chop came out !
As for the ground comment , I can't see how that will do anything to the rear . I have used just about everything to ground a welder except the gas tank and fuel lines .

Great job guys! You guys are really running the monopoly on the Jersey custom shoeboxes! Hope to see it next year at Gettysburg.

  23. Dare to be different..that's what custom cars are about. Great imagination and the wherewithal to carry it out.

Fantastic! Reminds me of some of the customs from the old little books from the '50s. It is very tasteful and just plain COOL! You do make it look easy. Nice job!

  26. Very cool car. Just have to watch out where you end up, adding fins to a shoebox. Ask Kustom7777....
