What happened to Kleber Tires? I haven't seen them on a car for years. I did some searching here on the HAMB and there's little mention of them.

Well considering their website doesn't have a USA option, I'd say they're only sold overseas.

Minus the Michelin XZX (way the hell overpriced!) they've been the best looking skinny radial around. I didn't navigate the Kleber Tyre website enough to see if the good ol' 165R15 is available.

Hmmm... seems Michelin owned/owns Kleber. I'm just looking for an alternative to the ridiculously overpriced XZX's. I remembered Kleber and wondered why I haven't seen their stuff for so long.

I think I'll find a "metric" and shave my sidewalls.

  5. Search VW tires. Vredestein has a couple nice skinnies

Thanks Tman. While searching here I read several posts you'd made about the Vredestein's, but since I'd never heard of them and each post I read was 2007 or earlier I figured they were gone.

    I'll check 'em out!

  7. i did a search a while back and all i found were the ones mentioned by Tman. i was curious because i have 155's on the front of my `28 tudor , plus a extra pair i bought for spares that are now approaching 20 years old.

Most online VW shops carry a brand called Nankang. They are available in 135r15 , 145r15 , 165r15 and maybe 155r15. Here is a pic of what they looked like on my old VW. I had the whitewalls cut in and painted at a local tire shop.

I used Klebber when they were available in the states, Coker use to sell them. I have since changed to Nan Kang 145/SR15 in a CX660 series they have a better tread pattern and So Cal Imports sells them for about 70.00 bucks apiece.

I can take a picture of them if you would like...............Later RP

I'm familiar with the Nankangs, thanks guys. I don't care for the new tread pattern is all. They stopped making the old tread pattern (more like Kleber and Michelin) back in '05 from what I've read. The new tread pattern doesn't look like hot rod material at all.

Anyone know if I can get a "new" set of the older tread pattern? I'm running 15x5's on the front of my '27 T roadster so I think 145's may be a little too narrow. 165's would be okay though.

I'm running the Nankangs on my roadster , and currently have about 10k miles with no problems so far . They don't look as good as the Michlins , but they are affordable .

I'm a die hard and used to buy Kleber 145s by the dozens and resell them at shows. I bought a dozen of the XZX 145s this spring and am surprised that I only have 1 pair left. They just sorta went away to customers this summer.

I agree that the older Nankang's look as good as the Michelins, but they recently changed their tread pattern and now they're kind of ugly.

Yeah, Nankang's around here are a "reasonable" $75 each, plus mount and balance.

So it's agreed, Kleber's are no more? At least not in the USA?

Thanks for the referral. My tire guy is trying to talk me into these if he can't find the older Nankangs. I'd never heard of them, but they look a lot like the Master Craft's I had on my Model A. Those were good tires too, but the sidewall was ugly as hell. The Nexen's look a lot better, and I could always shave the sidewalls if I didn't like looking at them!

As I understand it Michelin actually produces these tires, but only in limited quantities. Coker just resells them. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

  17. What about Firestone F560's? At least they have an American name printed on the side, sizes are 125, 135 & 145, they may have larger sizes too, but I tend to run the smaller ones.

I'd forgotten about those, they're GREAT looking too but too damned expensive for my Budget T.
