is 150 kinda fast ? Hell , while ya up there you might as well push it to the floor. good luck & no more yawns ....sbc rule.
That sounds doable as far as speed. Funny thing, I was eyeballing a similar Stude coupe that is somewhat of a hulk that a local "collector" has sitting in his back lot with the idea that it would be a good start for a land speed car. As if I need one more project but I may have to go see about it anyhow. A friend has a rear steer Nova front end under his 57 Silver Hawk and it seems to fit pretty well.
don't give up on me yet. i've ben workin my *** off on this thing all weekend. got my home made floor pans in and painted and my home made spun alum. fire wall done. tomorrow i'll do the trunk floor........ until next time. ed
Ed you doin real good. Hopefully I can make it out to Maxton to see you run in the future. Keep us posted. Cool ride. Maybe I'll have my truck ready and I can race too.
Looking good father, hey i helped knock out the control arm bushings remember, lol. Hows the motor coming. Cant wait to c this one done
This thread is looking like a South Carolina family reunion... Nice work on the firewall, Ed. That much engine turning takes a looong time. See ya, -Abone.
These were my helpers today. My dad and mr. Henry. They kept *****en because my grinder was makin to much noise and they could'nt hear each other.
HELPERS??? Helping ya by telling ya your doing it wrong...hahahha Hey wait, two weeks ago when i was there, they were in that same damn position. **** dont change, huh?
its funny, all you guys sayin 150 is easy, well, being a long time helper on a bonneville car(stude) record holder, and stude truck record holder, it isn`t as easy as it sounds, its very doable, but not the walk in the park i`m hearin, these car and truck i`m talking about hover around 180 to 200 and they have huge engines, like 540 cubes......so, it takes alot to ge up there, and if your doing it on he dirt or salt, takes even more.....so, hope ur doin it on pavement.......and if you could help it, say away from the 383, get somethin that`ll rev higher.....350.....327.......hell 283....but the 383 is a stroker......more for stump pullin than revvin.......just my point of view....u`ll make it.......just gotta work hard.......
i havnt heard anyone on this thread say it was easy. hell i might not be able to go that fast, but i think its doable. what gets me is my drag racing buddys say they can run 130 in the eighth mile, so they think they can go 200 in a mile.easy! nothin to it.
I had problems with gearing. I hit 151 with a 273 in the rear but should have run at least a 350 gear. You will be surprised how much tork it takes to get up to and past 150! I was also running a blown 871 BBC 400 turbo. And the most important thing to remember is - lots of fuel, 1/2 or larger fuel line. I burned 3 gallons of race fuel in a mile while listening to dozens of cars lean out all day. My 2 cents Good luck
I'm wondering about my choice of transmissions. Its a turbo 400. I think maybe i need a manual. I need opinions!
Great job EW... We plan to go to Maxton end of Oct. Hope to see you. Good Luck!!! Wish I lived closer, Id come lend a hand!!! BigJim
thanks man. gonna try to be at maxton spook weekend camping. we'll be cooking something on the grill sat evening. come get some!
