Hey All, Was just wondering if anyone on here has ever taken the dashboard out of a 1956 Ford Customline? I just got one that has a dashboard that I do not like the color, bright red, the gauges do not work and I want to put in a wiring harness. Figured it would be better if the dash came out. Thanks Steve
Piece of cake. There are about 8 screws under the windshield molding and 1ea 1/2" cap bolts under the dash on each end. The job is much easier if you diconnect the heater /vent cables from there respective ***ignments & pull the dash with the heater/vent cables intact. Drop the ignition switch with a screw driver. Reach up under the dash & feel for the spring loaded ****on on the light switch. When you compress it, push the light switch in, then pull it out. The knob & shaft should come out, then (using a screw driver), untwist the switch bezel from the dash. Dont waste your time trying to remove the guage housing, pull it with the dash. Then disconnect the wiring.
Go under the dash, there are two 3/8" nut one on each side of the controls at least on the deluxe. I used a nut driver but a 1/4" drive with a 6" extension will work. Then the unit comes forward and you can disconnect the right p***enger vent an the heater controller. Easier if the radio is out and the glove box..
