you can run hidden triggers to pull a cable to unlatch them.

  6. slddnmatt, wouldnt that only work if the latches are reversed such as bear claw?

how would you get a wire off the latch in the door, run it down to the bottom and get it through the body everytime you close the doors. if you didnt do that you would see a wire sticking out of the door.

  7. on my shoebox i leave the windows down and use the inner handles. i have a 51 chevy in my garage right now that has reworked stock latches with a rod that runs down to the rocker. the rod is pushed up by a ****on on the bottom of the rocker that you kick with your toe.

Go down to the local Radio Shack and pick up a magnetic reed switch like the ones they use for window alarms and what not. Install the switch behind the windshield or under a peice of trim ect. Wire that through a relay to a electric soleniod for the door latch.

Next buy a small but strong magnet and glue to the back of your favorite key chain thing. When you want to open your doors you just wave your key chain in front of the secret little area where you have mounted your switch and tada... your in.

pretty rad suggestions. i was never fancy enough to have legit poppers, i just ran a cable to the lower inner fender well that you'd reach in and pull. magnets and all that-sounds bad***....

i ran a piece of flat bar welded to some threaded bar to the bearclaw, then fed it up outside the window and shaped it into a small push down lever. put some felt either side of the flat bar so it dont rattle on the gl***. it looks decent and works real good. on doors where you dont have the room sideways to get around the window and back to the bearclaw i run it below the window (set this up with the window wound down or winding your window down will pop your door!) and back up to the lock. notch out a small bit of your window fuzzies / weather strips at the end and it will keep it in place..
you'll still need a remote central locking kit but those are cheap.

On my 36 Ford ,the windshield pivots open from bottom ,i open from outside and open from inside handle.

  20. I took the vent window lock off mine on the drivers side and just pop it open and reach through and use the inside door handle. That's what I did back in the 50's and since I'm a tight *** that's what I do now.

Back in the dark ages of Hot Rodding I had a model A pickup that I removed the exterior door handles,,I had installed modified caprice power windows because I didn't have the original window mechanisms,,,

I added 2 small electric push ****ons above the windshield under the visor,,,push the ****on the window went down.

I also had a backup jumper post under the bed of the truck in case of a battery failure,,It proved a smart move, but only had to use it once. HRP

I used the SPAL selonoids in a previous car, and had a choke cable that ran from the latch up into the inner fender incase the battery ****ped out. The toe kick rod sounds interesting though, I would love to see pics or a tech.

  23. My electric Solenoid's have performed very well for 32 years. They were originally meant for a Seat ***ist in a high-end Mercury and Lincoln, late 70's vintage. This small ****on is located in the Chrome strip toward the front of the door. Still like to leave the vent window un-latched in case the battery is dead.

Hey dude, is there any chance you could tech this up?
Im really curious to see how you did it, ive tried to drag this idea to the
drawing board but i get stuck pretty easy.
It would be great if you did a whole tech thread, n im sure it'll be very much appreciated.
    Thanx eitherway,
    Nick.

I put a mirco switch behind the centre of the door skin. Put alittle pressure on the door skin and the switch opens the door. It takes about 5 thou. to activate. You can hide them all over the place. I also used Honda Civic CRV? door handles in the edge of a door. There shaved but not. Or 88 Buick Regal door handles that go in the upper door window frame. You can see I've had my fun with shaved door handles. Some times they works sometimes they don't!!!

I put indents in the rear quarters and ****ons in the doors behind the rubber. They operate power door lock solenoids connected to the door latches. Been working fine for 20 years and 85,000 kms. Had to replace one ****on once.
I've seen the same thing done with an indent just big enough for one finger. I wanted something easy to get into while carrying a case of beer, a bag of groceries or a kid.
