Progress on the TUB project has been slowed, due to a recently request by my buddy to chop his 53 chevy.

in true sawzall style.. I tried like hell to get him to go the carson topped custom route.. but his heart was set on a chop..

mike's initial plan was to cut ALOT out of the windshield, like 4 inches.. and more out of the rear (like 5)

I knew better.. and figured even if that amout was what he wanted to end up with.. it was better to "sneak up" on the look and not to rush into it..
so with the help of a Tokyo, Mike and his pal bob, wednesday night we got the top cut and DOWN. ..

I figured 2 inches out of the a pillar would be a good amount to start, then I'd cut the same out of the B pillar if necessary and just loosen the rear of the roof from the body and see where we were..

this tactic worked well. very well.. at this point I am about 6 hours into the job.. (which includes the 4 hours the it took for mike to decide on how much the roof should be cut and where things should align.)

I was out for a few minutes tonight to do some cutting and mocking..

Very nice. Quality work, and the detailed photos are appreciated.

If it was my car, I'd drop the top a little deeper. But it's not my car, and I'm sure it will be a nice sneaky chop -- subtle and appreciated by those who know what they are looking at.

Looks pretty good. I like the not too steep drop. I think it follows the lines better.

    george..

you havent seen my new "west branch" offices...er I mean storage, as it sits now..

as for the glass I am not a "glass guy". The agreement that the owner and I made was that I was only doing the chop and that the glass wasnt his baby.

I had actually suggested to the owner that he have it cut first, and that we make the body fit the glass, but he wasnt completely sure of the total height he was going for.. and its prohably best that it went the way it did.

I believe that on lulabelle's 50 chevy he used the "sandblasting method" to chop his windshield.. but again I am not the glass guy.. so I dont want to know nor do I need to know how thats done...

thanks.. this means alot coming from you.. I agree cutting the a pillar more would result in "BADASSEDNESS" but in this case were lookin for a more subtle chop.

besides.. I'd need big worm for such a feat. and all I have is TOKYO..

    Looks kool.

That glass is the only thing that scares me on mine. Who knows, maybe I will be able to cut it before the summer.
