Time to update the music library. I've pretty much wore out the new Social D. So I'm looking for some rockabilly stuff. Like the bands that were at the Pile-up this year. they were all good. So let's hear em!

Dont know if you would cl***ify it as rockabilly, but The Brian Setzer 68' comback special is pretty good.

this will sound verry trendy but oh well
    johnny cash
its not quite rockabilly but there are hundreds of his songs and different versions
on the other end way far from rockabilly is hatebreed or pantera loud fast makes you drink more and dont get much done but keeps you going

i prefer garage rock to rockabilly but if you put the two together you get TAV FALCO. he is the ****! the only thing i've seen from him is the panther phobia album and one 7" but there may be more.

When I am out wrenchin in the shop I toss in a few disks in
the changer, hit shuffle and crank it up.

I must confess, lately I am hooked on speed bluegr***. Split Lip Rayfield! They Rock. "Never Make it Home" is my fave, "Should have seen it coming" is the new one.

Buffalo Bop records catalog lists many cd's that are all
car songs, Hot Rod Gang # Bb CD55005 with 30 songs is at the
top of my list. Buffalo Bop also offers Hot Rod Rumble #Bb
CD55044 with 31 songs, including my fav song "Model A Heap"

Remeber Wanda Jackson? the queen of rockabilly? She
toured with Elvis on his first nation wide tour. Wanda has a
new CD out called "Heart Trouble", but time has taken its toll on her voice. lok into older cuts before she went gospel. I love her hit from the 50's ***led "Let's have a
party" she had a kind of a growl if her voice that makes her
sound like a real ball of fire and she was a real babe back
    in the day.
Rosie Flores is a current rockabilly artist, she has a
Patsy sound to her songs. "Rockabilly Filly" Hightone
Records #HCD8067 or any other album by Rosie is a good
choice. Her latest did not thrill me much though.
Los Straightjackets is a current band with many CD's out,
"Supersonic Guitars in 3-D" #YEP 2047 is a album of
instrumental songs. "Sing along with Los Straightjackets" has many guest singers you will know.

Southern Culture on the Skids has many fun albums out
like "Dirt Track Date" "Plastic Seat Sweat", "Mojo Box" is just OK.

A good various artist/oldie rockabilly CD is called "As good as
it gets - Rockabilly" Disky Communications #DO 250542
it has them all, Johnny, Ricky, Gene, Elvis,Wanda, Roy, and
    Eddie.

Hank 3, Kicks. "Women Weed & Whisky"

Here are a few other billy bands
    Frantic Flintstones
    Gutter Demons
    Tiger Army
    Necromantix
    Evil Devil
    Milwaukee Wildmen
    The Krewmwen
    The Meteors
    Demented Are Go
    Batmobile
    Speed Crazy
    Koffin Kats
    The Quakes
    Celtic Bones
    The Deadcats
    Asmodeus
    King Kurt
    The Cryptocats
    The Sharks
    Stockcar named Desire

I stick to my Jack Baymore and the Bandits. Av8 Boogie is a damn good album. Otherwise I recommend the anthology of Bill Monroe and the newest album from Zeke, The Living End

Is anyone into old Jerry Reed?

los straitjackets are great as far as surf goes, but another surf band equally good are THE PENETRATORS. jeem, i think, recommended them to me on a music post last spring. VERY good stuff. their newer album is great, surf instrumental with so much feeling and emotion that it's insane.

big sandy and the flyrite boys are good as well, soft voice, 50s sound. not doo wop, not blatant rockabilly, just GOOD.

  13. So was the follow up....name escapes me right now...funny story.....Several years ago, it was normal for London Dj's to dig up really obscure 50's recordings from 'one hit wonders' you know, the kinda stuff that came out on the Bison & Buffalo Bob series of albums...well, AV8 Boogie got a lot of plays, and it was (and deservedly so) a fairly big hit over there......So one week, one of the London Dj's announces the appearance in a few weeks of 'Jack Baymoore'

So...several weeks later & we are at the show...all expecting this wrinkly old guy from Louisiana or similar...and out wanders this 20 something guy from SWEDEN!!

And he was every bit as good as the records...

    Anyway....on to car building music.....

    Big Sandy...Brian Setzer...The Choptops....Jerry lee Lewis....The Rimshots (from the UK).....Dion!...Bill Haley.....Merrill E Moore, Awesome Piano man....and my favourite...Jackie Wilson :D

Some Delbert McClinton or Besse Smith would be about right for the way my build is going right now.

It's good to keep it upbeat in the garage, here are the albums you need...

    Tiger Army - "(self ***led)"

Rev. Horton Heat - "Holy Roller"

    Blazing Haley - "(self ***led)"

Mike Ness - "Under the Influences"

any of Johnny Cash's '50's recordings

    any album by the Meteors

I've been listening to a lot of Rock Steady music in the garage lately...

Reggae also to a certain degree.

I've also been rediscovering Gen X, Bad Religion, X, and the Exploited.

I like Junior as well. He's a little hard to listen to over and over again though.

    Kinda like Jack Scott.

MFS CD soundtrack is really good- lots of surf and rockabillyesque tunes. I'm more a stonerrock fan,

    Fu Manchu
    Kyuss
    Orange Goblin
    Brant Bjork
    Nebula
    Electric Wizard
and Unida are some of my favourites. I think a Hamber built a roadster with a Fu Manchu tribute on it...
