I have a 263 straight 8 with a carter carb. I put in a new gas tank with a new sending unit. hooked it all up and tried to start it. nothing. i have a clear line from the fuel pump to the filter, then to the carb. I cant see any fuel passing through the line. before putting the new tank in i blew out the whole fuel line. the fuel pump is brand spankin new too. what am i missing?
Sending unit screen in good shape? You removed the plastic packing before installing it, right? Fuel in the tank? Any kinks in the fuel line? Tank vented properly? If so, faulty pump? Is it mechanical or electric? If mechanical, is the drive arm installed correctly? Drive cam worn away? Just a few guesses as to what may be wrong.
Its mechanical. the car ran fine last month. fuel pump was workin fine. would leftover rust in the line from the old tank damage the pump? i'm hopin to get it all running again before the weekend.
X2. Pump needs some backpressure, you need to get gas in the line on the discharge side of the fuel pump.
I've also seen 2-diaphragm fuel pumps before where one was blown, but the other was good, so it would pump fuel from the tank to pump, but not from the pump to the carb. ~Jason
yes it can damage it. last month the diaphragm was good, this month....not so much. new ones out of the box can be bad. had a run on those at the begining of this year.
are the tank line and the carb line around the right way on the pump.this is what happend a week ago to me
when you installed the pump, did you feel some resistance to it mateing to the block? if not chances are the push rod off the cam isnt pushing on the pump lever or it droped out, or down and isnt making correct contact with the end of the pumps finger.
its all set friends, thankyou! Thanks deuces and kisam. primed the carb and got some pressure in the line. everything workin fine again!
when i got my car some jackass put a big giant glob of silicone around the sendin unit and couldnt figure it out for months kept sucking it through the lines
Just asking.......................You did not blow through the new pump , did ya', with compressed air.( the line from tank to pump, was not connected?)
