I have a 32 frame with an 8BA and there is no way the stock manifolds or my fentons are going to clear the stock steering box.. engine sits in original mounts.. Any ideas suggetions? Thanks..
Reds Headers makes a set for flatheads that clears a '32 steering box. Not sure if that is what you are after or not.
The stock frame mounts are too low for a later flattie. They need a 2" thick C-shaped shim. I had a set once, but they are long gone.
Here is a picture of the space between the engine and the steering box.. Something seems wrong... there is only 3/4 of an inch gap.. Looking at Reds Headers they look as though they may not clear.. Is this a 32 box?
I made my own.The box shown is a F100 but I made the same style header on my sport coupe with the original 32 box.
Pope, I think you're thinking of the mercury pumps... I'll agree, that doesn't look right. How is your engine mounted? Aren't the 4cyl deuce engine mount holes in the crossmember lower than the v8 frames? Maybe that's the issue? I've got an 8ba in an original '32 frame. I used shortened-to-clear-intact wishbone center dumps and modified the rear driver's side runner to clear an F1 box which is physically bigger than the deuce one.
No, I have the center of the crank 2 3-8" lower than the top of the frame rails which puts it where the 59A was.. The mounts are made mounts for the 8 not 4 cyl. I spoke to Mike at Reds Headers today and he had the same comment the engine is low, but once I told him what I had he said its right... I guess i am going to order them from Reds and pray they clear. I really wanted to use the Fentons but I guess I may have to compromise to keep the steer box.
Old HURST mounts used the 'C' shaped spacers as part of the front mounts to adapt OHV mtrs. like SBF289 to stock 32 frames but they are ugly. Make your own spacers from 2'' round tubing weld thick [or double up thin] washers top and bottom drill to fit longer bolts use stock rubber pads and dont forget the spechal washers on top of the pads or they will split over time
