55 caddy carb metering rod question

I tore down my carb and did not pay attention to the jets there is a primary and secondary. They are different sizes, My question is does the metering rod seat in the jet or go straight through.

The bigger jets go in the primary side so the metering rods won't block the jets completely.

The metering rods NEVER seat in the jets.

The effective metering area for the primary is the area of the jet less the dynamic area of the rod (the rod has different diameters, with vacuum controlling the actual portion of the rod in the metering area of the jet at any given instant).

And as Merf stated, the larger jets will be the primary side.
