Hello all, new guy here.... Anybody have any suggestions on a replacement carb for my 250, something that will bolt right on? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Carter and Zenith both offered specific replacement carburetors; plus Chevrolet used Carters on some applications. Jon.
rochester monojets are good carbs. super cheap to rebuild and easy to find parts for at your local autoparts store. ive got 3 bolted to my 250.
They're easy to rebuild if you want to give that a go. As long as all the parts are there it should be a snap. If you have more $$ than time, get yours done over by a carb shop or really splurge on a new one. I've done that now and then and the smaller carbs are reasonable. Bob
Thanks guys, Looks like its been rebuilt a few times I am guessing, I wanna stay in the middle of the road price wise, I am definitely looking to go new, or new to me at least maybe even a double barrel just to let it breath a bit more, not 4, I don't want it to drown either.
What's wrong with the carb you are running now? If it's just getting tired, the cheapest option is thrown a kit in it. I'm back to running the Monojet on my 250, after swapping on a supposedly rebuilt Carter. I didn't like the way it ran under the Carter. Probably just jetted wrong, but I don't have any Carter parts laying around, either. IIRC, the carb kit was only $10-12. That & a can of carb cleaner made it run like it used to.
we rebuilt the carb on that truck a ways back, if i remember right it has a dead spot in it? try another rebuild we dont know who did it before!
I use a product called hydroseal 2 by Gunk at work. its a 5 gallon barrel with a parts tray, and once you have the carb all apart everything goes in it. the carb and all its pieces come out brand new. try and see if a local autoparts store has this stuff. its by-far the best on the market in my opinion. this and a carb kit and itll be better then new
Wanzer, yeah, I am going to rebuild to keep me on the road for sure, and yes, this thig has some demons. I also am hunting down a Rochester, my searches on them have turned up mostly positive results and the price is right. Crusaders, I am going to check that hydroseal 2 out for sure. Also, I am having a rough time tracking down one with manual choke any tips on where to look? I am reading about guys switching to later, model 70s to manual with a longer choke cable. Any experience with that?
I have been trying for days now but the online catalog just loads as a blank screen, it's taunting me. I already sent out for the paper catalog.
Shouldnt need a choke in Fla,, didnt when i lived in socal bout 30 yrs ago either I had a 250 in a 70 Nova, went thru two motors in 300K miles, same 1bbl Rochester, no choke ,, just a light spring on the ****erflys,, good luck
