In 1953, Buddy Fox and Tom Cobbs ran SoCal's chopped '34 coupe at Bonneville with a big number "1" painted on the door. I'm looking for a side-view of the car with that number on it. I have a couple of 3/4 views: in TRJ #24, and a another in Dean Batchelor's "Dry Lakes & Drag Strips" book -- but neither are direct from the side. Can any of you archivist/historians help me out? Thanks.
Here are two full on side views from Bonneville in 1953. That's Tom Cobbs in his signature pith helmet. That year he drove the car to smash the C compe***ion Coupe record with a speed of 172.3 MPH. The car wore the number "1" because the car was entered by the team of Fox & Cobbs; they had the right to the number for winning the SCTA points championship the previous year with their '36 Ford coupe. In the first picture you also get a glimpse of the revolutionary crank-blown flattie that Cobbs built for the car. I saw that Bruce Canepa, the current owner of the car, put the number 1 back on the car this summer. It was at the Quail Lodge event at Pebble Beach and looked outstanding.
