    Hey, can anyone please help?

Im building a 58 f100, its got a jag XJS front clip in it from a 70's XJS, but came with this rack on it, via a load of horrible brackets, (Its not the jag one from that clip). I can find out what the rack is off. Can any one help please?

I have spent hours searching the net for answers with no luck. It has started to leak and needs some new steel lines for it and seals, so really need to find out what it it from so can source parts.

What I know about the rack is:
    -Left hand drive
    -Power rack and pinion
-The box shaft is 36 spline 9/16 in.
-It has loads of part No.s but dont correspond to anything I can find. They are:
    -32 000 368
    -32 000 362
    -40586
    -671
    -MC 180 6
    -RSM 2
    -CGP 13 (in a triangle)
-P with an arrow pointing to it

If anyone knows anything about it please let me know.

    Many Thanks

The numbers in groups of 3 looks very european to me. That is not something that US carmakers use.

Thanks squirrel, Any ideas are usefull to keep narrowing it down. Much appriciated. I thought that they may have been, but searching for the part No.s has turned up nothing. Just thought that with the wealth of knowledge on here, someone may have some idea.
    Cheers

I can't imagine it's continental European with a 9/16" shaft. I would consider using it as a manual rack and ditch the lines and compressor. I did so in a lighter car and was happy.

I would love to cut it out and put the jag rack in, however, I made the school boy error of shortening a 68 mustang column and getting proper flaming river UJ's and DD bar, setting the motor around the rack and hand making my headers around this rack and finally remaking the brks that held it on really neat. IT was only then that it decided to dump fluid everywhere from the seals. So would really like to rebuild and fix it.

RPMSTEVE- Will give it a go, many thanks!

Anyone else out there, any ideas?

    Cheers

VW part numbers are set up like this: 000-000-000. Three sets of three numbers.

  12. It's been a long time, but I had a Pacer rack on my 34 ford that looked alot like that.

Thanks to everyone that has helped. It turned out to be a Ford Capri rack that has been flipped to make it LHD. What a mission, but got there in the end, much appreciated for the help narrowing it down.
