please read this BLM will be at El mirage looking to see if we hold a safe event that said please no drinking and driving, running around on the lake bed doing donuts, racing around making dust and nose ect you know who you are,and you will be removed from the lake bed by BLM or SCTA SCTA has been racing at El mirage since the 40's and we have a chance to lose it forever because of the crash at the off road races a month ago that killed 8 people so please use your head and lets make this Sept 12 meet and best and safest ever. thanks

    Just recieved this email:

Those of you that aren't aware, Shortly after the Lucerne Valley incident, Pat Riley has been working with the BLM to try and get some insight on what kind of changes they will be making towards organized racing events on BLM land. Pat has done a great job at showing how proactive SCTA has been toward spectator safety. I have been informed that our race this Sunday 9 BLM representatives will at El Mirage to study how the SCTA handles spectator safety. I'm asking all of you to help in making this Sunday's race as smooth as possible from a safety point. I really need all volunteers to have official placards on their vehicles along with their work shirts and orange hats so everybody is clearly visible. Please keep an eye on speeding in the pits and on the return roads. If anybody sees anything that needs to be addressed use the CB or the FM and follow through until it gets handled. The outcome of this weekends events will most defiantly have an affect on how the BLM will handle SCTA permits in the future

The BLM are watching everyone pretty closely right now. We will have to watch out Ps and Qs. It will only take one serious incident to have us shut down. The SCTA has a good relationship with the BLM but that woudln't mean squat if something serious were to happen.

I'll be on my best behaviour but the sidecar is on a roll right now so theres no chance of slowing unless the dirt gods decree so.

I'm still trying to get all the damn salt out of my sidecar. There'll be some salt up there for sure. We're heading out around 10a.m. Woolus, stop by and say hello. Sidecar 7919. We usually camp just behind bike tech.

  21. I was wondering it the unfortunate Off-Road racing incident had any potential impact on the dry lakes races. Looks like it does. In my opinion that tragedy was solely the spectators fault. I am very sorry for anyone's losses though, but being that close to that much moving mass that's on the razors edge of control is just not smart. Not the event coordinators fault as they supposedly had some form of tape line up, and people chose to cross it and then try to touch the trucks as they flew by.

This will be my 1st time to El-Mirage. I am looking forward to it. I have lived so close for 2 years now and never put this on the calendar. WTF is wrong with me?!?!?

well, i had an awsome day there today. i was the australian skateboarding around with a bright red cast.

everyone i met was super helpful and friendly. saw some awsome racing and just the cars in the parking lot were awsome!!

it was a really cool day.
i never made it to camp the night as my truck broke the alternator on the drive up the I-15 last night. (that awful feeling at night when your lights start to dim...)

so i slept in my truck beside the i15 and come morning time, pretty much as i was waking up, and some guy in a massive lifted f250 just pulled up and asked if i was ok... didnt even have the hood up. so he jumpstarted me. and i drove to el mirage with no electrics... i wanted to see some racing i can fix the car another day.

it was an awsome day. that food van certainly makes a mean burger.

anyway its all good, new alternator is on and i think ill hang out in vickersville for a few day or so to rest as the last few days have been pretty full on then i start my roadtrip.

so thanks again everyone there for letting me take pictures of your cars and just generally haveing a good chat to some random australian...

That most unfortunate incident has put a big cloud over EVERY off road event in SoCal. The BLM were out at El Mirage big time today watching how things were run and (I believe) looking for the slightest excuse to shut things down. The SCTA has a good working relationship with the BLM but all that could be thrown out the window with a serious incident. Hopefully all went well today and they went away happy. If you enjoyed today I would suggest you go to all of them just in case.......................

I had a GREAT weekend, the weather was perfect, saw Kaui, fireorder1, modelakeith (all the way from England), notrod and many more! That was the good the bad was my lil bike ran like shit! not "the shit". I was running a new carb set up and found an intake leak after the first run, fixed it, then on our 2nd run we were pumping to much fuel and ran the bowl dry. Oh Well live and learn, we'll be back next month! Good to see yall again.

Sorry you had a bad day on a great weekend. How did the pipe work? Was that the cause of the fuel shortage? I had a great weekend. Ran 120 on a 116 record. Would have been a bit faster except for the sand pit before the lights knocked off a couple of mph. And once again nothing broke!! See ya next month!!

I'm just back from a club meeting (Road Runners) and I'm happy to say that the BLM were impressed by the way the SCTA run their events. Pt Riley (SCTA treasurer and Road Runner) gave us a report on how things went. He met with the head BLM ranger on Wed. and the ranger wanted the whole SCTA lake race procedure on his desk by Friday. Pat drove to Barstow with all the info.

On Sunday there were no incidents of note and the BLM were very happey at how things were done. So much so that they had a meeting with other off road race promoters yesterday and held up the SCTA as an example on how to run race meetings. Hopefully we will continue to be able to race ther for a long time to come.

    Yes, atmosphere!
Feel and taste! Sites and sounds!
The quiet of the desert as it wakes to the sounds of hot rods warming up.
The feel of the crisp morning and the site of blue skies and wispy white clouds
The taste of a cup of hot joe to warm your bones
The crackle of the SCTA announcer on AM radio to start the event.
The site of the line up and watching hot rods and racers off the line and into the distance, chanced by the billows of ancient sea floor.
The scour of the hot sun blazing away on your skin as you chance any hopes of a shadow or shade.
The taste of fine desert dirt chalking through your teeth like tooth paste.
Watching hot rodders tune their rides.
Sitting with buddies in lawn chairs where there ain't a bit of green for miles.
Holding down the canopy as it tries to break loose to run the track in the 70 mph gusts.

Elmo is a weekend event, not a week event. I've never been but I know Bonneville is a week event though.

We can take some comfort in knowing that the S.C.T.A has been safely running these events since 1938 and has a good rapport with the
Department of the Interior, long before the B.L.M. was in existence.
