O'k my fellow Hambers I want your feedback on my 55 Chevy Project,I have a 55 2 dr. Chevy Post 150 that I am wanting to chop,I still have not decided how much but some where between 3-5?

I am having alot of nay sayers a**** friends, while most agree that the 49-54 Chevy's look great chopped, they say the 55-57'S just do not have the right look for chopping? One friend did think it would look cool if it was chopped more rather than less?I guess we'd call that the "radical whack" not sure about that one!

But here's my questions,I'd sure like your feedback!

Do you think 55-57's are good car's for chopping and will it look good?

If you think it should be chopped, how much chop should it have?

    THANKS!...xtralow

I'm sure there are outstanding exceptions, but I generally don't think they should be chopped. Not the you couldn't make it look good, but they have a good profile already.

I say hell yeah,Im glad to see someone build a tri 5 into something else besides a G***er.Is it a real 150 ?

  7. I've seen afew chopped..............even have a buddy who has a race 55 that only afew inches off the lid and it looks great..............but I find that if you take too much off the top it makes the body look longer..........which in turn makes it look bigger and loses it's nice lines............but that's only my thought's.............I 've got a 55 in the shop right now and must saw......they got it right the first time out. Good luck with the chop and don't forget to throw up some pic's of the process and finished project..........should look kool!!

  8. I think a 55 would look sweet chopped...... and possibly sectioned too....... the body side are awfully tall........ that'd drop the whole car down......... maybe someone can photoshop you somethin to see weather or not you'd like it....... besides, that's whats important......... it's what you like that matters......

I don't think they should be chopped either, they look awfully nice the way they are, strip off that long side chrome though

Cut the windshield FIRST, fit the body to it!!!57 Olds 3 piece back windows go well with a mild chop...........................OLDBEET

  14. I was about to search for the pic Randy D posted.....so DO IT. But only if you are going the custom route like that..otherwise its just a chopped stocker.

    Cheers

i personally wouldnt chop a 55 either, unless you were completely going to kustomize it so that you couldnt tell what it originally was.

Since you're asking for opinions, it's obvious you don't know what to do with it. If you do as your buddy says then you are a follower. Look at the car and then look at pics of a chopped tri-5. Then decide for yourself. Never build your car because someone else wants it like that, even for a chick. **** em all. Build the car like YOU want it not based on someones elses whim. Don't be a follower, LEAD!

i'd say do it. you only live once.

  24. that was a barris car owned by harry hoskins it is 2-1/2 all around. the challnege would be working with the wrparound wind sheild . one thing to do would be to shorten the rof sink te windsheild and move it back (lots of work) or just find a good gl*** guy.

Not sure how you would track him down, but I think Bruce Timchuk who works/wroked?? at Custom Autosound (the guys that make the indash stereos for 5-6-7's and Camaros) used to have a chopped 55 2 door sedan when he still lived here in Saskatchewan. Might have the car yet, maybe have pics.

  27. Don't do it unless your going with a full blown kustom. The stock body is too thick and the lines don't flow. Saw a '56 in Sarasota last year with a big whack off the roof, rolled pans front and back. Caught my immediate attention at first, then after checking it out, something was wrong. Tri-5's make nice mild kustoms but then you got to go for it big time with a chop. My personal opinion only. If we all liked the same thing the rodding world would be pretty boring. Good luck with your choice. love to see before and after pics.

Custom or rod? A slight 2.5-3" max chop. Lower the front end 5", rear 3" for a killer rake. Dark color would lend a agressive look. Mag wheel's ( natural finish 5 spoke's) 14's front, 15's rear. Body will look fatter if the top is chopped more than 3". Back in Dec. there was a post of a chopped Black (shiney) '55 that was a drag car, set-back HEMI! That car was (is?) cool.

Do it if you can make the ROOF look like the Roney Rice 55 post car built by the Alexander Bros in the early 60s. The car was green with quad headlights,Olds taillights rolled pans with tube grills. The car still exists in its original configuration and there was an article on the chop in a 1963 issue of Custom Craft.
