Heres my intro, so you guys dont kick me out of new favorite place. I'm a 28 year old helicopter painter from Lafayette, Louisiana. I currently dont have anything older than my 71 cutllass, but I've been looking for something. Thats how I found this site, looking for ideas. Now that I've been lurking around your site for a couple days, I really need to find something. I've had alot of hot rods, 66 chevelle that I put a 455 in, 85 monte carlo ss with a LT1, 82 chevy truck 350, and a shit load of s-10's, which is what I drive now a slammed flat black s-10 with a 305. The only thing else I have is a grat girl and son who turns 4 on Wednsday. I'm gonna find something and start my build I'll keep you guys posted...
Welcome to the HAMB, Glad to see some more young guy's on here. There's tons of useful info on here, plus a lot of really cool people.
Welcome! I spent a couple years in Lafayette one weekend. LOL If I stayed there, I'd weigh 800 pounds. Cajun food is the best.
Welcome to hamb. Question: what do you paint helicopters with? I hear it's special stuff that withstands a lot of expansion/contraction.
We use Dupont Imron on the outside, its a single stage paint. Most of the helicopters we paint are for offshore use, so it has to have alot of millage, so the salt air doesnt eat it up. Imron with the paint and clear on top puts out the most millage for us. The inside is PRC DeSoto, it's crappy but does the job, the inside are usually flatter colors(thats where all my flat black comes from). Thanks everybody for welcoming me in. I'll post some pics of the choppers when I figure out how, old lady gonna have to show me.
A gallon of Imron 508u White is about $130, a quart of the activator is about $90, its a 3-1 ratio. Imron is pricey for single stage paint, but its probally the best, in my opinion anyway.
Hey anothern teck question. Tell us about that black paint that absorbs radar waves. Thank You and set back and enjoy this place.. Bobby....
The paint is called ecosorb, I dont really know how it works, but I know a full pint of this stuff ways over 5lbs. It real heavy it has to be thinned out with MEK just to shoot it through a gun.
welcome from Michigan. I am still looking for a project to start on also. Lots of good info on here. Don't be afraid to ask any questions.
welcome! that's kick ass that you paint 'choppers' have any pictures of the monte carlo?/ thanks, Paul
Actually I dont have pictures of the monte or the chevelle, my last girl thought I spent to much time withthem so she destroyed them, and that is why I'm with my new girl who begs me to go out and get these things runnin so she can drive em'
