fuel cell foam?

    got a 8 gal plastic fuel cell for the trunk of my model a. can i take out the foam so i can put in a float type gas gauge sender, cause i haven't ran out of gas since before i was married.

    Leave it in and just cut it where the sending unit goes. If you pull it out the gauge will go crazy, bounce all over.

    yeah leave it in there and cuta round it, the gauge goes nuts because of the sloshing, it wasnt designed without foam in it.
    shouldnt be too hard good luck

    I put new foam in my tank. The original was showing signs of coming apart. It's a rule at the dirt fairgrounds I race at. I bought the new foam bricks from Speedy Bill. In less then 6 months it was coming apart and plugging the fuel filter (just like several racers told me it would do). If you leave it in and start to have problems, check the fuel filter. Just my two cents.

    I agree, you should remove the foam, its not alky proof and will begin to break down and screw up the rest of the fuel system.

    I've got a 16 gal fuel cell and bought the foam. I decided to not put it in the tank. Yea, it sloshes around but then calms down at a stop light or on flat ground. No problem and I like knowing how much gas I have too...
