    from Brum...

The 354 is a really tight fit in our Austin and we've hit a problem with the oil filter system. What we need is a take-off plate (so we can fit a remote filter elsewhere) that fits to the block that has the inlet and outlet exiting the plate at 90 degrees (preferably towards the front of the car), as opposed to straight out. If our oil lines come straight out, we're gonna hit the ch***is rail.
I've looked on Hot Hemi Heads site and they can't help. Does anyone know of any other supplier that could help us?

  2. ****, I was thinking of the Poly...

But I thought it said in Tex Smith's book you could use the LA 90 degree adapter to do it... maybe you can adapt the adapter?

They can likely hook you up with something suitable. We build a supercharged BDX Ford powered 4x4 ****** Mk 3 for Rallycross a few years ago (before the Cosworth was in production) and got a suitable take off & remote filter from them 'off the shelf' :D

Hmmm.... You could try making a plate out of flat plate & srewing in 90deg. fittings. If not enough room for that, maybe cut hole in the frame, box or weld in pipe to maintain strenth, & use a strait out remote type.

Most of the industrial engines had the plate you want. I may have one.I use a big block Ford filter housing. From a FE type like a 390. I make some s shaped studs and a plate that gets sandwiched inbetween. No modifications to anything. Sticks out about 4-5 inches. Will give more info if that looks at all possible.

Looks like your engine is allready ***emble so it may be too late but... One thing I've seen done is to tap the original oil p***age hole out for a pipe thread. The original oil p***age hole are 5/8" so you would need to go to at least 1/2" pipe. I believe that the tap dill size for 1/2" is 45/64" and you would need to go about 3/4" deep. At that point you could use a 90 deg fitting to route the lines forward. It would probably take several tries to get the right number of threads so that the fiting seated at the right angle and one would need to be longer than the other to allow you to rotate it. Other option would be a block off plate with a channel milled between to two holes and very, very, frequent oil changes.
