WOW!! I love it. Great pics too. Those guys look pretty happy.
Reminds me of the Tom Orren roadster. Featured in TRJ #27. Perfect as it sits.
    Congrats.!!!!

We want more pictures. I mean, please post more pictures.

I was holding my breath until you said that!! HAHA!

Gee, if I had the chance to buy that, I wouldn't even think once about it!! :D

That is some '40's Hot Rodding which is becoming more and more rare as time goes on!

I'm a MoPar man myself, uncles got a '64 Polara HTP S/S too, but when it comes down to this thing, gotta keep it Flathead powered and keep it looking legit...... So pretty much how it's looking now!

In the end of the day, you do what you want with it, but, you've got something special!

    Enjoy it man!

AMAZING CAR! awesome that you got to meet the guy too. The pictures are way cool.

  4. The guy looks like he could by your grand-pappy! haha. Maybe he saw a little of his old self if you...judging by his expression he was pretty stoked to pass the torch to somebody worthy!

I'm glad you got the roadster....probably saved it from getting IFS, coils, AC, and a 60 y/o in a hawaiin shirt added! haha.

Love the car but I would keep the 4 banger. I think you'll regret any big changes. Your car obviously, but I would respectfully suggest that you refrain from major "era type" changes until you've given it some serious thought.

Cool, sometimes you just have to step back and give it some thought. Long ago, I couldnt decide between IFS or a drop axle on my 33. Fortunately, an old timer bitch slapped some sense into me! :)

Its truely an awesome car, congrats!

If that banger will run, drive the heck out of it as-is before you go cuttin' up a nice piece of history like that. I'm running a B banger and wouldn't change a thing ('cept for a leaky rear main) if I did it again. Remember though, my advice is worth about what it cost you. Bangers really are a hoot though with just a few changes (electronic ign., hi-comp head, and an overdrive they will make many a flatties sweat). Great find!!

Sorry to hear about the old owner passing away. Like you said, now you can build it in his honor, and by all means take it to show his widow when you get it up and around- I'm sure she would appreciate it.

If you decide to replace the rear trunk handle let me know I will pay $125.00 for it.

    Sad news.
Run it with the 4banger 'till you get git hungry for a little more power. Appreciate every step and think about what Herman might have done. "You have the force Luke"

  24. Don't listen to the naysayers. I think what your doing is great. Flathead is the right choice. Juice brakes next? What are you going to do for rubber?

What tickles me about this is that you see guys on here wanting to know what was period correct for 1950 etc. You got it right there. Absolutely no arguing or debating. You have a car with, as the antique people like to say, indisputable provenance. Changing it other than changes to make it safe to drive in todays traffic would be a sin. Plus it would take away from a fantastic story!!

    .....Looks great.....leave it as is,,,,,

  29. X8 or however many that is on the V8! haha. Historically speaking...most every time a hot rod changes owners, the car itself undergoes some changes. You gotta put your touch on it and make it yours.

It's an evolution of the original beast! Aside from the obvious mechanical/performance advantages....it's just cool to see somebody who's got the right idea bring the car to a new level.

It's not like your bastardizing a piece of history, like a handful of hardcore banger heads might be suggesting. You're gonna drive this thing, not put it in a museum! haha

Have fun, can't wait to see the finished product.

thanks guys..man i wanta drive this thing alot..if the banger wasnt locked up tighter than a safe i woulda hopped it up and drove right away..but i found a rebuilt 21a and i wanted juice brakes and a better rear.so shes getting the chassis redone.im not changing the paint or even the frame paint.and i custom paint for a living..it will only look like this once.and the gray has been on it since 49.btw i have no idea what im doing.lol.its my first complete hotrod.i did a 38 plymouth 40s custom 2yrs ago.but it was easier.i got my Dad and some buddies helping me along.ive dreamed of this for many yrs.
