So my 1940 Plymouth non-presureized system is working fine now (new radiator) I read what I could about additives seems this Water Wetter will drop the temperature by or up to 20 degrees.... One bottle does 12 to 20 qts I have 14 quart system so I called and asked him if two bottles are needed.. He tells me no one bottle and "IF" I want it to run its cooler DO NOT USE ADTIFREEZE...! I always thought antifreeze helps a car no boil over he claims only if its presurized.... Is he correct water and his product is best .......Thanks..DANiel
Water Wetter the biggest Snake Oil on the market, manufactured to take your money. Plymouth just think of what would happen if you added 7 bottles? Using their formula you'd have ice in your radiator.
I've used Water Wetter, and could actually tell a difference.I also used just water, because I wanted it to run as cool as possible.Worked for me though!!
Anti Freeze does not cool as well as water. The main reasons for anti freeze are 1) just what the name implies, 2) anti corrosion and lubricant for the waterpump 3) raises the boiling point in a pressurized system. I have used water wetter and have seen minor drops (10-15 degree) in temperature.
Water wetter dropped my engine temp 10 degrees. Good info of the water and anti freeze. Water is the deal for cooling. Anti freeze is for lubrication, corosion, and freezing, all good points. Speaking of lubrication, where is that Jack Daniels and honeybun? 1940 Willys Coupe
snake oil? not even close... Go to a drag strip and you'll find near everyone runs it. It dropped my race car from 215 degrees after a run to 195. It really works. It also has lubricants and anti corrosion chemicals in it so as long as you aren't concernced about freezing the stuff is awesome. IT REALLY WORKS!
By the way, antifreeze will increase your operating temperature over straight water. It doesn't absorb the heat as well as straight water. One bottle will work great for most cooling systems.
I've also used Water Wetter and saw a difference on the temp guage. I used it in a car that always overheated because the radiator was too small for the large cube high compression motor in the car. The car was too small for a bigger radiator. It's not a huge difference, but it works. When you're looking for any little thing that will help, it's worth it.
Watter wetter is a surfactant (lowers the surface tension of a liquid) allowing better contact with the metal of the cooling system and helping with heat transfer. Surfactants find application in detergents as well and before this product, some have used a little laundry or dishwasher detergent in the coolant for the same effect. Here is more detailed info on this product... http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Service/waterwetter_tech_info.htm I use it together with distilled water in both my rides, because in the winter it never gets below freezing in my garage overnight. And the coolant never gets anywhere close to boiling. Water has the best heat transfer properties and together with water wetter it gives the most cooling effect.
You are misinformed - Wetter is widely used in a couple OT car groups I belonged to, I observed a test by a club member in his 96 LT1 B-body, He was having some cooling issues in MN and the Correctly bled closed system, 50/50 mix new antifreeze, 3 mile of roadcourse laps and 4 minutes at an idle (to simulate traffic) - 228 degrees (dakota digital temp gauge) After water and wetter, same 3 mile roadcourse laps, 4 minutes at an idle - 207 degrees
I have used it in all of my vehicles for as long as I can remember. 15-20 degree drop in every instance. Not snake oil by any means. Reminds me that it is time to change he coolant in the OT/DD.
I was told by an old timer that a drop or two of soap works as a wetting agent. I do it in my drag car.
Raising the operating pressure of any liquid raises the boiling point. The wetter is allowing heat transfer to occur more efficiently. It does work, the only problem would be winter and it seems to be incompatible with anti freeze. Have you tried Purple Ice?
I use water wetter in all my engines with whatever I do. I swapped to a mechanical fan on my international and before it ran at 205-210 degrees now it runs 180 degrees all day long. I run it in all my race bikes. It's no gimmick. I would never not run water wetter.
I use Redline's Water Wetter when running regular water/coolant mix in the old cars that are more likely to spring a leak. But I've always used Evans NPG in my newer vehicles.
Sorry guy's a car thats set up properly does not need Water Wetter. To spend that kind of money for a 10 degree drop in temperature is a waste of money. I still think its Snake Oil and would never run it. Why should I? I don't need it.
Wetter is better! Hey, 15 degrees from 200 to 185 is better than "minor"! Mild winters here in Calif., but that extra cooling in 9 months out of the year is well received. Spent most part of 2nd college year in Haight-Ashbury, but never tried purple ice...
We use watter wetter in out O/T thunder car and like most of the others we see a 15-20 degree difference. It works well for what it is intended for. will it fix an overheating engine due to a bad rad or plugged cooling system? No. Will it help a car that sits right on the boil over point? Absolutely.
Why not fix the problem of a car that sits on the boil over point? When you go to a car show your always in traffic, its no fun with your eyes glued to the temp gauge.
Its a no brainer if your car is over running over 200 fix the problem . Water wetter is a band aid to the problem .
Another thumbs up for water wetter. If the gauge in my Lincoln is correct it dropped my reg op temp about 10 degrees.
X2...The "Water Wetters" work quite well, always use distilled water .89 cents a gallon at Wally World. A little soap works well also as it is also a surfactant but not as well as the "Good Stuff". Royal Purple and Redline make the better stuff as it has a water pump lube in it. Have run the above combo in race cars for several years and it works good. In the winter, drain this combo out and put water/anti-freeze back in for extra corrosion protection. Good luck !!
Water Wetter with a mix of about 20% antifreeze and 80% tap water dropped my car's temps by 20 degrees. Call it a band-aid, that's fine... but it keeps me out of trouble until I can get an electric fan installed.
i think water wetter also softens the water! so anything that will do that will help also. But i knw waht everyone is saying about WW being a bandaid. If you have a over heating problem its proably caused by something else, not "hard water" JimV
Yeah, the stuff works. Works much better the more water you run though. I usually run a 60/40 mix of water/antifreeze since the winters don't get that cold in NJ and the car stays in the garage. If you absolutely need the water wetter, you may have bigger cooling issues, but when you're stuck in traffic on a 95 degree day in blazing sun, every little bit helps
