Got a call from one of our vendors. Said they were inquiring at Goodguys about getting space for the 2011 Goodguys in Indy. said he was told by Goodguys that the Indy event would not be at O'Reilly raceway park next year. After about 22 years of having it there, will be kinda sad if they move the event and do away with the drag racing.

    Anybody else heard anything?

Indy in a great place to host the event but people are tired of getting wet every year. Just change the dates and pray for no RAIN.

lots of rumors about goodguys changing events next year. it will be interesting to see what happens. if they move the indy event and cancel blue swede at norwalk, i will probably stop going to goodguy shows. but, thats a year away.

I suppose Kirk may be able to shed some light on this issue.

How would you handle the situation if you were Gary?

Your position is clear. On the other hand there probably are many that says if the shows aren't moved etc. they will never attend again.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not fighting or supporting your statement at all, I'm just saying that deals of this size must be a nightmare to put all the pieces together and make the show go on.

I don't think most of us appreciate all the things that have to be done to make these things happen.

The date is in question right now. I should have an answer by the end of the week. Indy in on, we're just trying to find a weather friendlier date.

Yes, negotiating dates is a tedious task. First the venue has to have it available, then you have to try not to step on any other show's toes. Not to mention that it has to fit into the current schedule with out making vendors travel from one side of the country to the other between events.

Mother nature has not been good to Goodguys in Indy in the past. I know Gary has had to take a beating every year when he comes to Indy.
Finding another date in Indy in June 2011 that doesn't conflict would be difficult as well. Not much wiggle room with a schedule like 2010 was.
About the only two venues in Indy that can handle Goodguys is O'Reilly Raceway of possibly the Indiana State Fairgrounds. ISF can not support any drag races.

So it's the Indy date that is changing? I had heard that the Chicagoland date was potentially changing as well due to the NHRA schedule. True?

I think it would be cool at IMS. I accidentally went there my first year with Goodguys thinking that's where it was.

Also true. Both events are on, it's just the dates that are being looked at. They also may not change at all if the date they're on works out best.

That's why we called yesterday about HCP.

It wont be nearly as good. It is worth braving a little rain to see old time racing right in the middle of a great show. When the weather works out, it is the best show of the year.

Gotcha. I had heard that before the call, so it all makes sense now.

Thanks for asking on this. Definitely ask me about any other rumors you hear. I'm always happy to answer.

  20. NASCAR is moving to the 3rd week of September date next year with NHRA moving forward a couple of weekends in June at Chicagoland.

Yea Indy has had its share of weather over the past 6-7 years I have been going.

Is it a problem..............slightly, but I would still rather be in Indy on that weekend than to be at home and the sun shining. Now the rain year before last (I think year before last) was a little much but I still enjoyed myself.

With mother nature one has no idea what will happen if there is a date change.

Thanks to all of the folks at GG's that make so many of my weekends memorable, make the date and I'll be there.

The GG Indy show would be plenty cool at IMS or at the State Fairgrounds.

But there's no denying that it would lose a lot if it lost that dragstrip. IMO, that is what really makes that show.

    I prefer wat wods myself.

Actually any show in that part of the country has the chance of bad weather that time of the year. A August or September dat would be good for that area. I would be hot but a better chance of being dry.

Ah, you mean "The Track". :D

Well if the Chicagoland show dates change, then I could resume the family tradition of going to the Fall Hoosier Swap Meet, which I have gone to with my Dad since it was at "The Track", at least until Goodguys started the Chicagoland show. My Dad said he probably wasn't even going to go the swap this weekend because he didn't have anyone to go with. Damn near broke my heart. :(

Yep. The "Brickyard. We get to cruise it now, but having the event there would be pretty damn cool. That place is maintained amazingly and of course has more history than most any other automotive location.

IMS used to have a Mustang & Ford show there back in the '80s. Also a very large open car show and swap meet there in Sept in the '70 & '80s. So it's nothing new to IMS. Ticket sells have been dropping there at the 3 motor races, I bet they would jump at a chance for 5000 cars to show up. If it rains there there is plenty of cover. Also lower the entry prices - $90 for a non member is pretty salty, and at the gate too. I heard a bunch of complaints from walkins - $80 bucks for a family of 4 - nothing left for food / drinks.
