Hmmmm.....A large-er car, early for the period in which it appears here (photo probably dates to the '20s), but I find it strange that even though the car appears to be a RHD rig, there are NO gear shift or hand brake levers on the outside of the car...nor do I see any in the center for that matter. The running board "inside splash aprons" have an early Cadillac feel...other than that, I'm stumped.

Good point about the missing levers - here he is flipped to LHD. My recollection is that by the time American manufacturers had gone to LHD (c. 1913), acetylene tanks had been done away with and electric lights were more mainstream. Here, the tank is present and on the left, but when gas lights were used, the tank was usually on the right hand side.

I think it was posted on at least one other thread on the HAMB, and while I do not recall learning much about the vehicle, there were plenty of good jokes and puns.

Ok...nobody even bit on this one so
here's the I.D. It's a 1920 'Standard'
(also known as a 'Scott-Newcomb')
steam touring car, made in St.
Louis Missouri. It's probably the only
example of a touring car (a prototype
perhaps?) that the company built
- out a total production of (maybe)
5 cars they built between 1920 and
1921.

Thanks, Mart - it stumped us all, but now we've been enlightened! I read somewhere that nearly 50 different makes of steam cars were built in the US at one time or another, pretty amazing.

True. Your right on the year (1915-1916), but that is an awfully big car to be a model 38....I'd say more like a 48 or a 66.
