Don't let people who put down gl*** cars discourage you, I am building a gl*** '32 roadster of unknown origin (I think its a Raven) and I have heard it all ! Would I rather have a steel car? YES!!!!!, I have had a steel '32 sedan and a couple of trucks in the past but they had to go to build my house, I will try to find another in the future. -BUT- You will not have any less fun building or driving a car because it's made out of fibergl***. When it's all done and on the road you will always have someone come up to you and say "I'd never buy a gl*** car mine is all steel...and here's why blah blah....." but they usually drive something so ugly or unpopular that a gl*** version would never be created anyway -or- they really do have the best all henry steel NOS 1932 three window in the world and the fact that they brag about it and put down your car only helps point out how much of an @$$holes they are. Bottom line, if you build your car right you can enjoy it and sell it or swap bodies(my plan) if/and/when you find the real deal.
True. Unfortunately, there also seems to be many more tons of folks that just want to fill every thread with childish at***ude and unsolicited opinions. You just have to sift through a pile of worthless drivel like "_______ is gay", or "_______is for sissys", or "real men don't______" to gleen the gems. Honestly, sometimes it seems more like a group of 13 year olds arguing on a playground than adult car enthusiasts discussing hot rods.
Talk to Limey Steve he has gl*** body's from nz i think or some where down south lol NO WOOD in them at all doors hang good and i made my windshield swing out some work but not bad. I love it i only have $25 in the car total
I was at a show a couple of years ago. The cars were mostly restored Model A's. While standing next to a very nice gl*** 2 door Model A phaeton I asked if anyone knew who made the body. An expert proceeded to tell me in a loud voice "Ford did". The tone of his voice was "you idiot". Since neither one of us owned the car it took a while for me to convince him it was gl***. Never did find out who made it. I have always wanted to build one of the fibergl*** Model A 3 window coupes with a stock drive line. It was alot of work but I enjoyed making it all work well. people think it is steel. Ib have a lot less money in it than steel. Since building it I acquired a real steel 32 3w. cpe. un molested, no chop, hole in roof, very nice original body. as much as I like chopped roofs I will not cut this one. Mine's a 1988 Downs. It was my first step in the rodding world,spent most of the earlier years with 70 to 73 camaros til that time,and after fixing and patching all the rust in the 12 that I had in a ten year period, I got lazy and bought the gl*** body, the next project is gonna be steel,this ones done so I have the time for this STEEL project....
I went through this about a year ago. I wanted all the original features...working cowl, exposed hinges, opening windshield. Rod Bods & Deuce Customs (both Austrailian) are probably the 2 closest to originals, and are very well built. These bodies are comparable to a Wescott, but half the price. Their steel work is the best on the market. Before I found my steel 3w, I had talked to Elvis at Rod Bods, and was going to buy one of his bodies. Super nice guy, and he was going to angle chop my body 4.5 in front, 4 in rear, & lay the a pillars back. If this economy ever flips, and the exchange rate is in our favor, you could get a real good deal on one of these... So Cal Las Vegas had one of these (Rod Bods) bodies last summer, and the salesman told me they had sent it to Canada to have molds taken from it. I don't know what, if anything ever came from it. The russnomore bodies look ok online, but I haven't seen one in person. New age motorsports are probably the closest looking to original made in the U.S., but I don't think they are making 3 windows as of yet.The Kilbourne bodies look pretty good for the money. The older Bear bodies (now J.W. GARAGE) look pretty decent as well, and I kind of like their angle chop, even though it's not near enough of a chop. Please, stay away from Bebops. Their bodies aren't even close...they don't even have the body reveal around the windshield. You can tell it's not a real deal from 50 ft away. I was looking at one of their 5 window bodies with the exposed hinges option, and they had put the hinges in the ROADSTER position!!! What the hell? Good luck, and welcome to the H.A.M.B.... sam

Im building one of a cheapo fibergl*** 29 .. Its not a 32 ..Wescotts grille shells are perfect ..If you can afford a nice gl*** body do it ,..I would go with wescott ...also would check with ctfuzz here on the board ,He can probably give you a good deal on one .......
This site has a ton of guys who will cuss and fuss about even a body part, much less a whole car, out of fibergl***, My first car, back in 1954, was a '34 3 wd., followed by a '30 "A" roadster, a '31 "A" coupe, and then a '32 3wd, channeled but not chopped. All were genuine Henry and all of them had rust, half *** repaired in some and still out there for all to see in others. Then for almost 50 years, I was either out of hot rodding, or into muscle cars, 4 wheeling, dirt ovals, and just plain fast late model cars. Bout 6-7 years ago, at age 65 or so, I decided I wanted another hot rod and started looking around back woods junk yards, swap meets, etc. for raw material. What little I found was so far gone that in the old days I wouldn't have drug it home if they gave it to me and, and ****, they wanted $6K-$8K for it! Finished cars were outta sight $30K and up for cars that just a glance showed me stuff I'd hafta change or fix. Knowing at my age I couldn't spend 5 years on bodywork even if I had the energy, I resigned myself to fibergl***, bought an OEM'33 frame and started looking. Settled on Gibbons, because they had a good rep, were in the next state (S.C.) and were willing to build on my frame for good alignment.I actually went to their plant and looked at completed cars all the way to bodies in progress of construction. But before I could get my *** in gear and get the frame ready for the body and get it to Gibbons, they went ***s up! Guy who goes by the name of "Shooter" bought most of the molds and the name. He's on the internet as Gibbons Fibergl***.com or something similar, just Google it. We met up on the outskirts of Atlanta one day when he brought a body down to a dealer in metro ATL and another to a guy from Birmingham. I looked closely at the body going to B'ham and liked the changes he had mad and pointed out in the interior. Intended on buying from him, but ran up on a deal on a rolling ch***is '31 Brookville roadster with a lot of extras and much work already done and bought that. Nearly finished with it now. Brookville bodies are nice, no rust to patch, etc. But I'll tell you now, there's more to finishing one than you think! The whole body is sprayed inside and out with red oxide primer that is over non etched metal with not all the oil washed off. the sole purpose of this primer is to prevent rust till it gets to the customer. It must be removed from the body degreased thoroughly and then etched before spraying a good epoxy primer. Then you'll find enough waves and such to make you seasick, takes a good bodyman to work them all out before the finish paint. So if you decide to go Brookville, you're done with rust, but there's one helluva lot more to do to the body before finish paint than you can believe. Sorry for the novel, but when a man is considering spending big bucks, he needs a complete answer to the question of which way to go. Dave
The secret to getting a body that won't twist & crack on you is that it needs to be built on the Frame to ensure Tolerances are set. That is how the quality Gl*** Rod builders do it over here. You give them a Rolling Ch***is and they will make a Body for you that fits perfectly on your Frame. Doing it any other way leaves you open to issues later on down the track. I'm another that will be going down the Gl*** path.... Steel is way out of my price range.
I'm coming back to Rods after being away for 50 Years! I never lost my lust for a 32 3 window that was out of my price range even in 1960! I had a chopped and channeled Model A that I started building in 1958 with the help of my High School Metal Shop teacher (he taught me how to do lead!) who was the most influential person in my life. OK,back to the Fibergl*** car question. When I went to a GoodGuys show last year what I was impressed with was that the Gl*** cars had all the things Built In that I would have done to a Steel car anyway. Like most things in Life you get what you pay for and after doing my "Home Work" I found out what to look for. I talked to a lot of owners of gl*** cars and was surprised that some of their cars were 10-20 years old and they had no problems with cracking IF they bought quality from day one. I just bought a finished (Gl***) car because I'm going to be 67 in a few weeks and I don't want to be 75 before I get to Drive a Rod again. If the owners of Steel Cars look down their nose at Me I don't care. But then I have always done whats best for Me. Even in the '60's I ran Buick engines when everyone else had to have a Chevy. Rock On.

Here is a pic of my 32 roadster, oh yea it is gl*** (wescott). I have driven this car over 40,000 miles so far and get a kick out of it every time I turn the key. I will drive this car till it won't go any farther then I will fix it and drive it some more. As far as the body it has shown no issues in those miles. Would I rather have a real 32 yes of course I would , but this deal has not cost me my retirement and it makes me smile.
I have a local friend who has a Wescott Gl*** 34 tub that has held up great since the late 70's. He built it then and has owned it ever since. Since not everyone can swing the loot for an original steel Ford three window these days I can see the point of going with a gl*** or even steel repro body. I'd suggest this before doing anything except maybe building the ch***is. Go to one of the major rodding events like the Goodguys in Spokane http://www.good-guys.com/events/eventDetails.aspx?eventid=10-626 The vendors should be there with their gl*** and steel bodys on display and on sale. You can touch and feel and ask questions and go back and forth from one to the other and compare. They usually run serious car show specials so if you are dead serious on buying on go prepared to make a deal and have the funds available. It's also a good time to check out the cars that are for sale at the event as sometimes someone else's old car that may be a bit out of date or tired might be a better bargain than starting from scratch.
"WHAT PRICE GLORY" My fibergl*** roadster body is great! So glad to get it on the road! Not covered in some of these inane arguments is the idea that someone should thank all those gl*** makers out there - at least the quality ones! Yes, THANK THEM! They help keep that traditional hot rod thing alive. Ya just can't pick these original puppies up in the local salvage yard any more like my dad could in his day. Today, many (most?) people could not or would not spend that kind of money for a metal body. Good for those who can and would though. But thanks to the gl*** body makers, maby some of the rodders CAN build that dream car. So go build it and don't bother with that snooty elitism ya sometimes read on here!
I decided to build myself another 32 5W coupe. For what I sold my last steel 5W "finished,running ,driving car" 10 years ago I can not buy a ratty steel body for today! After much research, I bought this Kilborn gl*** body this past summer. I bought a decent stock firewall ( like the detail of the stock firewalls). I have almost everything I need to put this car together (other then time....).Very happy with the quality of this body. I did a little work on the body this last fall before I put the car away. I installed an opening windshield along with a stock cowl vent ***embly. Also installing a 40 dash ,which will bolt in to the body. I'll install the firewall once the body is mounted to the ch***is. Good luck with your build ,which ever way you decide to go.
This has been a good discussion (for the most part). It brings to memory something Tex Smith said many many years ago. He was in the midst of one of his many builds and the question of fibergl*** vs steel came up. His reply, "I like steel cars and as long as I can find what I'm looking for in steel and can afford it, that's the way I'll go. Failing that I'll pick a quaility gl*** body and build it unashamed that it isn't steel." It's been some time since reading that (I've got the magazine around here somewhere that I read it in) so the quote might be slightly off but not the sentiment. Anyone failing to recognize who Tex Smith is really ought to do some research. He's one of the oldest and most respected hot rodders that's been here almost from the start and to say he's done it all would barely cover his many accomplishments. Frank
i just traded into this a/altered 3 window model A body, very heavy gl*** super solid, thinkin 32 rails no fenders 60s hot rod look... not trditional maybe but i like it. if henry made a 3 window in 31 this would have been it... and price is right

i agree 100% my 32 tudor is a deuce custom body and i cant be more pleased with it there was very little work to get it ready for paint and hasent shown any sighns of cracking and the finish that deuce do to these bodys and the steel inside is near perfect
I like Chuck R's at***ude, I love a 32 ford so much that I wouldn't care if it was made out of paper mache, most people don't ask me if my car is steel, its nice to say it is and I fell into one that was affordable for me. But a 32 is the most fun car I have ever owned and it has a lot of work to be done to make it nice but I just drive it all the time and like being the manager of a celebrity. It took me till I'm 67 years old to own a deuce, don't wait for a steel car, you'll be missing out on a lot of fun. I hope this helps you decide.
when ou really think about it either wescott ( or any copy) or Fibergl***, there both "aftermarket" bodies!! and also both aern't cheap! JimV
For my non-hamb friendly 32 3-window ( independent Q/C rear/billet i.f.s./ big block Chevy/power everything/air etc.) I used a Down`s body. Minor issues ,but good for the price.
