Well it will be at least a week before I can get back to VA to work on my truck. I thought I would take the time to learn a bit about the transmission.

It's a 3 speed manual and is marked with T 16. The only thing I could find with that reference was a Borg Warner. Most sites skipped 16 in their transmission ID listings.

Can any one give me any pertinent information on this transmission? It seems to shift well in the little time I drove the truck before pulling the engine and transmission. The only issue I found was the shift lever flops around like a wet noodle ..but I could find the gears eventually. What would be the main cause for this and what's the fix?

The big clunky bracket also holds the emergency brake lever (previous owner) I hope to clean this up one day but its functional for now.
    Thanks in advance,

Its a mopar trans from the late 40's - early 50's. It was originally set up as a column shift, so I am guessing the homade floor shift mechanism is probably causing the free play. I would probably redesign the shifter to work correctly, go back to a column shift, or ditch that trans all together and go with a later mopar overdrive trans with a floor shift or a t-5 .

Is that out of a MOPAR. Looks alot like the trans from 40' & 50's Plymouth. Some Dodges used similar too. But I never knew they were Borg-Warner. Always just thought they were made by Chrysler. Maybe not. I have one laying in a storage facility, not immediately convenient to look at, but your appears to be a "selector type", meaning one lever is used for all four positions (1st, 2nd, 3rd & Rev) but which pair 'selected' depends on the position of the second lever. It just looks a little different in the lever area than my tired old memory recalls. I need to go look.

Anyway, if is the Mopar unit, shouldn't be too difficult to get a good used one.

edit: obviously I type too slow.............Oldtin beat me to the punch :)

OK ... makes sense, the engine is a 1955 Polly. I did not get a chance to look it over good before I had to leave the truck. I'll check out the mount and see what can be done.

    Thanks for the information guys!

Maybe I should not but I ***ume the engine trans and rear (Dana) probably came from the same donor car?
