I was going to post the same question...... is anyone using the original tank....? I typed in a search for model a gas tanks and one for modified gas tanks and they both have alot of info....
My gas tank is under the floor between the ch***is rail, behind the ****** and in front of the diff. I holds 23.5 gallons, gives a low center of gravity and the filler is in the rear quarter panel.
@FiftyV8, is that tank custom made or can you purchase it somewhere? I looked all over for a saddle tank. IMO thats the best way to go. Here's mine unless I find the saddle tank set up.
this is how i was going to do mine, until i scored a 32 tank very fairly priced and for sale by a fellow HAMBer
Im using the original on my -30 Tudor. No problem if you dont need the space under the cowl fore some other purpose.
for saddle tanks think "TANKS" http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/Category_ID=80/home_id=59/mode=cat/cat80.htm
Thats exactly how I want to do mine but smaller like only 15 to 18 gallons. Don't want to put it out back or under the running boards because I am running no fenders. Raised the back floorboard up about 4" to make room but don't have the skills to safely build my own tank. I have looked all over but I guess you built your own ?
Yes home made, but not so difficult as you do a sketch with measurements and take it to a sheetmetal shop and a number of the joints are actually folds in the sheet so not all edges need to be welded. Some shops will have a welding guy there who could complete the welding for you. What is needed is 2 outlet points down low either side of the drive shaft. I used bent up exhaust tube to run to my filler position and dont forget to install a breather somewhere.
Does anyone use a 32 Pickup tank which is originally under the front seat. Anyone use one of these behind the back seat ?
Sounds like a reasonable idea, but Ive never had a 32 tank to try it for fit. Maybe somebody else on here would know.
F Von Rigg Fink, Did you mount the '32 rails at the same angle as a stock '32 or did you eyeball till you liked the fit?
its mocked to the body..they are installed on a Model A frame so i had no 32 frame angles to go by. i just fit and mocked it like 5 to 6 times to get it where i wanted it and how i wanted it to fit. it is tucked some and dropped some..the curve bodyline in the top of the Deuce tank almost perfectly fits to the rear subframe part of the model A tudor body..enough that the normal fender welting will finish it off real nice. the frame for the tank had to be modified to do what i wanted, and to clear my coilovers due to the tucking its pretty close to being one off..i altered the tank frame and mounted the tank under the rails insted of on top as usual..i also made provisions for the fuel line to come in thru the front rail of the tank mount, and made weld nut keepers to be able to run the tank bolted below the rails insted of on top..that way there is adequate support for where and how the tank is attached to the mounting frame fit and all was done with my lookin' chair..done by eye , so it will not only work right, but look good doing it
Thanks Drilled play around with it some and get a feel for where you like it and tack it up.. i used small sticks to hold it up than placed the body on the frame and used different length sticks to hold it up or to drop it lower..than i tack welded it and pulled the body and finished welding it..i also used some gussets to the inside of the frame rails to help support the frame and tank from flexing the model A rear cross member with somewhere around 66 to 70 pounds worth of fuel and tank cantilivered off your rear cross member i didnt want it to over stress it and start twisting the top of the X member..I think i wore out a few tape measures before i was happy with it..I took it off the frame 2 times before i was happy with where it sat bangin down the road with that much weight hangin out there could end up bad if not supported well
