I'm with the " Drive the piss out of it" crowd. What the hell you have almost all the pieces to finish it, alittle of your own labor you can flog the **** out of it, drive it the wal mart and park right next to the door, you still be cooler the 99 % of the cars out there and do a wicked burn out when you leave. I promise most folks wont be saying "hey is that a gl*** car with incorrect proportions?" they will be saying "check that out!"

Same boat as the others that suggest a grille and hood swap.

Down play the cheese, keep it simple but make it drivable and sell it to get what you really want.

I would love to have one for a winter beater around here :D the old farts would probably think its real! Drive the piss out of it and have some fun ...lifes too short.

  6. Opinions are like belly****ons, everybody has one. I think you should get it running, drive it for a while, then do whatever you thinks is right.

    There's the real truth!

I built one of the CMC coupes in the early 90's for a guy...start to complete finish. There were some problems, but it came out great. Had to cut one A arm perch off and relocate it correctly. For the grille I threw the one that came with it in the trash and urethane glued 3/16" stainless welding rods to the back of the shell (with about 3/16" between rods) and it improved it tremendously. It was bright red, grey interior and looked great. And it drove and rode like a dream!

No, it's not a '34, but if it doesn't really owe you anything, and you don't have to sell it to finance something else, finish it and have some fun. You can always drive your A to runs that really matter and when you're tired of it someone will be there to make another "interesting" trade.

And the next time I'm in Chandler to visit my son I'll be happy to go for a ride in it with you.

If it has all the parts needed to finish why not just toy around with it. Think of it as practice for the real builds lol. I wouldnt invest any money into it. Im sure later something will fall in your lap and everything will work out in the end......jesus loves hotrodders bro!

Well you got it now. It probably isn't worth what you thought it might be. So if you are going to do it yourself get it going and drive the wheels off it. Depending what you think your travel trailer was worth, you might come out ok to good when it's driveable. But if you like it, and like driving it, what its worth, means nothing. Somthing is worth what someone will pay for it. And right now not much of anything is selling for what it did. And pay no attention to the haters. I am sick of the "If it ain't steel it ain't real". A few people may have cars that were hot rods or customs, back in the day. You can build it from original parts, period correct, and it's built now, so it's just as fake as the fibergl***. Brookville bodies are great, but they are not the real deal either. And a Model a that is hot rodded today is not the same as a "True Survivor", just steel fakes, made from old parts. JMHO............ Drive the Snot out of it. It feels just the same...............:D

Nice to hear. Yes this is a '91 kit, so similar to the one you built I'm sure. Let me know when you are visiting, I'll buy you a beer.

    Thanks, Tom

Oh, and it's freakin' hot here today (and calling for record temps this weekend) so I am headed to the hills where there is cool weather and no computers for a few days. :D

  11. Just for the fun of it, try trading again for something that really peaks your interest. Don't sound like u really want to get to involved with this one.

The point of the HAMB in part is to not be like this....SORRY man, I would rather drive a rusted out jalopy over a plastic street rod anyday...my opinion of course but Im more of a hot rodder than a show off....same reason I dont go to car shows...I attended 2 this year. In this case as a trade, I would sell it or trade it for a hot rod. Good luck -Eric

Just finish the car and DRIVE it as a daily! It's YOUR car! Why ask what we think about it? Build it and drive it already! Or sell it!

Could be a hell of a lot worse - could've traded for some five-year-old Toyota. Or, someone's abortion of a perfectly good steel car.

Gl*** or not you can turn that into a profit. There are plenty of guys with money who only dig the ZZ top looks of stuff and will pay for it. I think you got a good deal.

I agree with getting it finished and drivable. Then you can drive it as a daily while you decide whether to keep it or sell/trade. I wouldn't go to a lot of effort trying to correct the proportions of the grille or in any other major alterations. It is what it is and it always will be. If you don't like it after you get it finished, then like I said sell or trade it off. There's somebody out there that would like to have it, correct or not. Just don't get too extreme in your finishing touches.
About 3 or 4 guys here in my small town have had these cars and these were earlier ones. Biggest issues have been getting the doors to open far enough to get in and out! Have you tried the doors? One guy had to completely rework the hinge setup on a Vicky.

Just get a new grill and do a little blending, It should look more like it was originally intended.

Fer Christ's sake! He traded a travel trailer for it. He got the best of the deal. Good for him! I got $500 for a good Motorhome in this economy. Good luck to him!

The only thing wrong with changing out the grill is that then it won't fit the fenders---or the hood---or...........and then things start to get expensive. If I wanted to change the looks of the grill, I think I would just build a new insert like stated above.

Man I would get rid of that thing before it tarnishes your reputation and standing on The HAMB, to make it easier on you, I can just come pick it up and haul it off to save you the trouble.

that gl*** body is thicker than most because it is about 90% gelcoat if and when it cracks it will never be fixed. I tried for a customer alot on his hood and it would make it about 2 months. Now days they are called street beast and they are a beast to work on or get rid of. If you dont care and just want something to drive go for it and hope you like it noone else will when you try to sell it.

Which, if you've ever seen one (up close) or worked on one (I have) you would RUN from this project. Every aspect of them is a losing deal. And this is putting it politely.
