I am also into diesel Performance almost as much as hot rods. I myself have always wanted to build a diesel hot rod. the only problem is diesels are so expensive. I would like to have a newer model ***mins with all the electronics and a programmer and whatnot. They make ****loads of power on low budget...cool project man keep us posted.

Not so: but I'd prefer to see some mechanical injection pumps, though ...

  12. We have toyed with a similar idea in a '49 Studebaker pickup but were thinking of using a Isuzu out of a MPV, anyone else?

Looks real good! I've put almost 3000 miles on my latest rod which is a '30 A Tudor with a 4BT and a 5 speed. You won't be disappointed with the power, but you won't get 50mpg. I get right at 30 when driving nice and upper 20's when having maximum fun. the torque in a light weight hot rod is lots of fun.:D
here is a shot of mine.

there have actually been diesels in race cars for almost as long as gas engines, how is that not traditional? there was a thread somewhere on with with some diesel stuff from the 40's. it's a big powerful beast of an engine with a ton of torque, whats not to like about it? i still want to build something with an old Mercedes diesel, sounds like a blender full of marbles with the cool looking Bosch mechanical injection

  17. ...and I can tell you for a fact, that Crusty Nut's A-Bone is downright spritely. Went for a ride a few weeks ago, and was quite impressed.
Traditional? Maybe not, but neither was a SBC in a Model A, Deuce, or anything else in '54....and isn't hot rodding about making it work/fit/perform?

here you go, how much more traditional do you possibly want? I can't believe people are grumbling about diesels, i can almost guarantee there were also some hot rods built in the day using old diesel tractor engines. if it was available someone used it. [IMG]

    yep

    nope

If you're not trying build a traditional ride why are you here? Just curious as this site is "dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to hoodlums world wide. That’s right – TRADITIONAL. " as the boss put it in his thread...

The "it's traditional because it's old and I had it" argument is getting kind of old.....

A diesel in a hot rod is not traditional. You both should be ashamed and take those 4bt's out. Then you can send them to me.....I need one for a project. ;)

Traditional is NOT using what you have.
Traditional is using what the guys in the '60's and earlier had.

i would like to know where you get the idea that a diesel hot rod isn't traditional? were they built back in the day? look at the pictures above, are they cool, yep, were they built by the average guy who had to work with what he had if he wanted to build a rod? you bet. better tell all those guys who ran them on the salt back in the day their cars aren't traditional. they are as much a part of the entire culture of these cars as far back as they go.

I have cars from the '60s-'70s laying around. I guess by the same token, that would make them traditional. If I had an LS-1 and 17" wheels laying around, they also automatically become traditional? Hey, I'm just a FNG, still trying to learn the ropes around here. I have already learned SO MUCH about "g***ers" that I didnt know before I came here, just trying to figure this stuff out. :D

So you are saying diesels are common power plants from "back in the day"

How many cars do you think were running a diesel?

  30. I think you are wrong
traditional hot rod is a modified vehicle that some one builds for them selves
    power is there option
i am not trying to start anything and will not reply to neg. comments
