    Alright, first of many posts.
When running, my motor sounds like a bunch of squirrels eating nuts in there!
I took off the drivers side valve cover and found it dry in there. there was sludge everywhere. I used a dropper to drip fresh oil on all parts including the rocker shaft and tried to put oil into the only holes in the rocker shaft and it did completely eliminate the noise. That lasted for a few minutes then back it came. so....it appears no oiling going on. What is the cure. I am afraid to pull the head due to the extreme rust on the bolts...but will attempt if that is what needs to be done.

The engine's really that rotten that you don't think you can break the head bolts loose? If it were mine and it were sludged up that bad, I wouldn't screw around; I'd remove the heads and take them to a machine shop for some serious cleaning in their block/head washer.

I will try to get the bolts off. I fully expect the exhaust manifold bolts to snap off however. they are the worst of thE bunch.
What your saying is that the heads are just too dirty to do on my own?

Might want to pull the engine & take it apart for a good degunking. The pan is probably the same way. The oil gets to the rocker ***embly through a single small hole from the cam. Good chance it's plugged, or almost plugged up.

    I agree with George.

If the top is that full-o-**** and the oil has stopped moving what is to be gained by anything short of an overhaul? The rest of the engine will be as plugged as the top so cleaning the pan and oil pump is only a stop gap measure. The danger is that after you put everthing back together you break loose some of the junk in the crankcase and it plugs the pump screen and...

Alright, sounds like it is a bigger job than I hoped for. I will take the pan out, then try to remove the heads and everything else. if that fails to fix, then I will have to rebuild...

The rockers are fed from a cam bearing. As I said, it sounds like the line is plugged. Even if you take the head off & find the hole is plugged up in the head, you still won't know if you got the line unplugged w/o removing the cam & running a piece of welding rod(& cleaning brush) down the hole & seeing it in the cam bore.
