window hinges (i could use some help)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by model A hooligan, Sep 18, 2010.

  1. okay still workin on the 29 ford coupe, my question is if any of you good fellas have pics of your front window hinges. iv got the window frame, and the nobs, as well as the sliders but i dont have any hinge at all.

i bought some piano hinge and i tacked it to the frame to see if it would work but the window doesnt open to far, and also i dont see a way of making it removable from the car. of course you all know it has to be removable to replace the window.

any pics, tips on making this work? doesnt have to look like show care engineering here, just work is what im after. thanks folks.

  3. try MACS
    they should sell it

  4. does the black part mount to the car and then the opposite mounting to the window? my trouble with making my own is a piano hinge would cause the top window frame to binde against the top window opeing in the car. (nice price for that part)

  5. man i cant remember to tell you the truth...... been too long since i had the windshield outta my sedan.... And i sold it two weeks ago, otherwise id run outside and have a lookseey............... But im sure someone else can pop in here and tell you for sure

  6. okay, im heading to billetproof so i hope i can find some folks there as well. my car didnt have the window when i got it so i dont know what im looking for honestly.

there doesnt seem to be any holes in the car or the frame so im unsure how to mount anything.

any Model A parts stocks em........just buy one they are cheap and it will fit right

  8. got ya cruzr, but how do they mount? theres no holes in the car or nothing, im scratchin my head on this. perhaps ill buy the hinge and go from there.

  9. i do remember that one side of it has a 3/4 circle running full length..... that 3/4 circle and the 3/4 circle on th frame slide together... that makes it hinge ....... then if i rememebr correctly i either self tapping sheet metal screwed the palte to the header of the car or used small bolts and lock nuts..... think i did the self tappers first then later after the car got on the street i did the bolts

dunno if all that makes sense or not to you but seems to me thats what it took to make it swing

  10. i dont get what you mean on the circles on the sides, im a hands on guy i guess!

i get the header screw thing tho, i dont think i can do that tho since i welded the visor on, i raised the visor, took out that wood strip and welded metal were the wood was and raise the viser a bit, so it doesnt have that odd piece sticking up obove the visor.
