1938 Ford Truck Cab...worth value...???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 16ozSchlitzMan, Sep 14, 2010.

  1. I have a chance to get this 1938 Ford truck cab for $250.00...the guy wanted $475.00 for it last month...it needs door bottoms..(both sides) and some work at the base of the base of the cab in the back (rot)...and some rot on the cowl side areas....wondering if I should do the $250.00 for it...he might take $200.00...OR pass on it. I'm wondering where can I buy patch panels for the areas mentioned...????...Forgot.... it has the gauges inside and the heater...overall no dents...I love the gas pedel in this truck...it's in the middle of the cab...

  3. Any idea if I can get repair panels for it...cab corners....door bottons....etc..

  4. If the rest of the cab is in good shape,it's for sure worth $250!!!! Not sure where to get patch panels for a '38 though...Mine didn't need them.

www.rasloto.com, lot of 38 truck info. Get a Notarized bill of sale, take the guy to the bank or currency exchange do the transaction there and buy the guy lunch for his troubles, more and more the notary thing is becoming huge.

  7. It's well worth the money, a lot of guys pay more money for rougher ones than that. Just about all of them are going to need door bottoms unless you find one that's spent its whole life out in the desert. Although the '38-'39 cab is a different animal from the '40-'47, the patch panels for the bottoms of the doors and the bottom of the back cab wall are the same for '38-'47. I've owned a '38 pickup 44 years, so I know my way around them pretty well.

  8. Northern Classic Truck makes a lot of replacement panels, bed kits and running boards. The inner door panel bottoms are available too. I believe I got mine thru Bob Drake several years ago. Outer skins are around but the ones I found were pricey. The curves aren't difficult to reproduce on an English wheel.

If he has the steel fenders, you better get them as well. Those are way harder to find than anything else in good shape. Cabs are all over the place.

http://www.fordor.com/ which is Howell's Sheetmetal has all the patch panels you need. Its a lot of work to do the door panels right.

I could use the inner fenders if he has them. I am at pdcllc@hotmail.com

    Thanks,

    Paul

  10. Paul... I can buy the fenders for $200.00 maybe $175.00 for the pair..with the headlights mounted...I should grap them...I saw some inner fenders and I think I saw the running boards. Someone else bought the grill, hood and hood side panels...I have a front grill for it...I'll be getting the cab tomorrow afternoon...i"ll see what he has for sure...he does a a 38 Dodge cab for $150.00 but it's in rough shape..

Bought all the stuff you need, but can't find thew catalog now, recall it was an outfit in Kansas. Need to get every piece of sheetmetal you can, especially after you price fenders, running boards, etc. And don't sweat the crank out windshield business, it will always leak & end up being siliconed & screwed shut. That is why the dash instruments have to be restored. Made a tilt frontend for engine access, can't do dick trying to reach way down into the skinny hood hole, no regrets there.

  12. Well I picked the cab up last week...swapped some power tools for it..Also picked up some other items that he threw in..only issue he wasn't sure about what they belonged to..does someone know if they belong to the 38 Ford truck...I have a steering box and a spare tire holder...He has the front fenders with headlights also...( next post) I do not need them but will get them and try to move them out..fenders look pretty decent...

Awsome score my friend. I was about to post something negative when you asked about the price. But I'm glad you worked it out. Will make a great winter project.

  15. You have a '39 cab, not '38--essentially the same but a few minor differences. '38 has an ashtray in center of dash, '39 does not. '38 windshield regulator has a handle just above ridge of upper dash panel, '39 has a round knob up on top of upper dash panel. '38 gauge faces are a light bronze color, '39 are sort of a chocolate milk color. '38 inside door panels are laminated cardboard like the headliner and are usually totally gone, '39 inside door panels are stamped sheet metal.

  16. 38fordpickup..thanks for the info...I'm wondering if that steering box and that spare tire holder is off of the truck.....???..I'm still trying to make a deal for the fenders w/headlights...he wants $300.00 for both..I will offer him less and maybe some stuff in trade...any idea what the fenders are worth...only one needs some work...

  17. The spare tire holder and the steering appear correct. They look identical to what was on my '38 when I got it. Still got the original spare tire holder on it. Currently have a GM tilt column and a '64 Chevelle steering box but still have the original column and box, may rebuild the original box and put the original box and column back in at some point.

  18. Well picking up the fenders tomorrow along with the running boards and inner fenders...can't remember much about the shape of the running boards or inner fenders...anyways I made a trade with him...so it's a no cash deal...will post some pics tomorrow..

I am looking for Ford 1938 left front fender. Do you still have them. I am interested in purchasing them. If so how could I get in contact with you?
