1932 Flathead removal with/without gearbox

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by dutch deuce, Sep 18, 2010.

  1. I'm sure it's asked several times before but i can't find it.

What's the best way to take out my V-8 flathead out of my 32 sedan

The engine, box and frame are all original.

Should i pull it with the gearbox or without it ?

If i pull it with the gearbox on it do i have to take the rearend off ?

    Thanks Hennie

You can pull it all out the front..without pulling the rear..but you need to take the shifter off for clearence...d32

Oh and by the way...When you put it back together...use large Channel Locks (or pliers) to save your fingers on the U-joint...d32

I've done it either way. It's equally a pain in the *** to align the U-joint and the pilot bearing/input shaft.

  6. My plans are to replace it with a 36 engine that was used as a statonary engine since my 32 engine is in need of a serious rebuild and the 36 is like new.

I'd be inclined to just pull the engine in that case. No mucking about with the shifter, e-brake, pedals, clutch linkage, etc... Do support the trans with a jack before you free the engine.

  8. Okay thanks thunderbirdesq, i will try to remove it with the gearbox in place.
