I picked Austin up about 9:30 this morning from a buddies house where he had spent the night. His friends were impressed that he got picked up in a hot rod. lol We then headed northwest for about an hour or so to Alva OK for thier annual car show. This was the first time Austin had been on the road in the tub but he's a trooper. It was 92 degrees comming home and he didn't whimper once. We didn't do anything but hang out, eat food cart sandwiches, get sunburned and dehydrated, but we sure had a good time. Here are a few of the cars and bikes I think you fellas might like. The copper flames was a Drag Camaro I striped awhile back and hadn't seen it since it was cleared.
Next batch, told Austin we were going to pull over and take a picture at this old gas station, it was a "Photo Op". He says, "is that why they built it like that". Kid cracks me up somtimes!
35 degrees when I got to the office today! I love this quote! He says, "is that why the built it like that". Looks like fun, hell I know it was fun! But who put that "ugly" alternator on ? I have a judging sheet from a local "expert" for the time it was in an indoor show after its rebirth. I only put in a cl*** since the organizer was a pal and wanted me too. The "goat farmer with no working hotrod" judged it and said quote "Alt bracket won't stand up." So, hows that 1/4" bracket holding up after what? 6ooo miles?
Very neat George, I hope to have a grandson or granddaughter some day................but not to soon, my son is only 20 and still trying to find his way.
Grandchildren are the reward for having had kids Hope my son has kids while I'm still young enough to take them for a ride in the hot rod!! You're blessed...
George, that grandson of yours will always remember days spent together like that. Nothing like a grandpa. I still miss mine to this very day.
'Nother proud Grandpa moment... Rather than start a new thread I figured I would put this on here. Austin spent some time over at our house this w/e and we tore down a 2hp Briggs I had picked up for a minibike project. Showed him how an engine works, got his hands dirty, and learned a few things. I showed him how the valves open and shut and take in fuel. When I said all an engine needs to run is fuel, oxygen, and an ignition source he says "Hey, we studied that in science!, it's like fire right fuel, oxygen and heat?" Smart kid. The main thing we learned is that $10 garage sale motors are not useually worth rebuilding LOL. But it was a good learning experience. So Sunday I am taking him home and he gets to talking about how we are related to everyone and says, "So when I have kids you will be thier great grandpa, right? I said yep. He says "and they are probably gonna think you're really old and not gonna want to hang out with you..." then he thought a minute and says, "Don't worry I'll let'em know how cool you are." What a kid!
Very Kool post, I can just hear him at school braggin about how kool his Grandpa is.. But does Austin know aboout you painting toe nails? LOL! Happy Trails, Mick
speaking from the other side, some of my greatest memories was riding along with my grandpa in his '66 chevelle...him letting me steer the car around the neighborhood which at the time seemed to be the biggest steering wheel ever lol. great great times! im sure your grandson will remember those times just the same G V Gordon, thanks for sharing the pics by the way!
Good job G. V., another kid on the road to hotrodding. Is that why they made it like that? = priceless! Love it ~Sololobo~
Some of the greatest times of my life were spent shadowing my grandfather. He's the one who got me interested in everything mechanical and giving me hands on experience when I was way too young according to everyone else. As my grandson was growing up he and I took in some shows together and the proudest moment was when my car was picked for a trophy I sent him up to get it. I gave it to him and he still has it on a shelf in his room at home even after he left for college. Frank
Ha, ha, ha. that was so funny when I saw an example of your work at the HAMB Drag. Its not very manly but still very kool! I'm just jealous that my wife won't let me do it... I guess that should be another post on another site. LOL! Keep up the good work with the Grandson. Happy Trails, Mick
Very cool that your dragging him around with you to car events and getting his hands dirty. I have a TON of memories when I was a chump kid, such as sleeping on the gas tank in the back of my dad's hotrod while he drove down the road......haha.........or shooting primer with him after 10pm on old cars while my mother was at work when I was 4 years old. Does the kid have a toolbox yet? If not, get him a basic Craftsman and some garage sale tools to keep for himself & you will be surprised in 20 years that the little chump will still have his first toolbox. Chris Nelson Kansas Oh yea, your building memories <<<That is my pop's and I say.
