I attended the swap meet in KC today and left my home at 3 am in order to get there when the event started. Arriving at 6:30 am when the sun was just coming up allowed me to make a quick walk thru and see things before it got busy. Much smaller in quan***y than the spring meet. Perhaps half size. Quality was good and prices were close to retail in my opinion. Not many bargains and I did not buy much nor did many other folks as near as I could tell. The Shriner's use this as a big fundraiser and do a good job of helping you park, giving you a ride from your truck, hauling your goods back to your truck and so forth. All they ask for is a $5 parking fee and of course they charge the vendors for their seller's spaces. Weather got hot and humid and hit 91 or so. I was without my usual swap meet partner and brother in law since he was at a college football game and even my own personal bodyguard G***erlouie was unable to attend because he was earning a living at his Chevy dealership job back home in Nebraska. I did however run into alot of friends and had a good time talking to them. Here are some of the photos I took so you can see what was offered for sale.

After my first walk thru I started over again and ran into my good friends from Lincoln, NE Frank (GrouchySS) and his wife Swap Meet Cindy. I spent the next couple of hours with them looking thru the stuff again as more vendors continued to arrive. <center>

Swap Meet Cindy was kind enough to model my new metalflake biker helmet that is sure to be a hit in my hometown when I am terrorizing the streets. <center>

Then I saw my old pal Jay (Dr. Frankencycle) from the Coffeyville, KS area and he invited me to come and see his board track style motorized bike next time I get down that direction which is around 200 miles from me. <center>

Then local bubble top hero "Fritz" showed up looking very similar to a "Vegas Elvis" and told me all about his many 59 Chevy projects that he is collecting. This was the 2nd time I had seen him in a week and I must admit.....I do envy those gl***es. <center>

then there was this guy---sort of a cross between Fabio and Barry Gibb of the "Bee Gees" who was dressed as security or law enforcement. He had a beard and tons of jewelry and bling. Never did get a good picture of him but I tried my best. I was afraid he would shoot if I got too close. <center>

I also bought this wagon cheap and some rolls of stretch wrap and a few small items. Only other thing I bought was a very rare 51-52 Henry J item. <center>

I see chevy trucks there, it's a good thing Dad had to be at the game, he's already filled up that new barn.

Then I ran into my old pal Don (Dad's-53) who has the coolest mustache in Missouri. You can't meet a friendlier guy than Don and it is always a pleasure to talk to him. He gets around to alot of shows in KS and MO. <center>

Last but not least is my buddy Bob (Gas4Blood) and his wife Janice who live nearby in the KC, Kansas area. Bob owns the coolest original 32 Ford Woody and a large collection of very old vintage motorcycles. He even owns a former Poverty Flats Model A jalopy so you know he has good taste. <center>

Great coverage of a super swap meet. I could spend a few imaginary bucks on items pictured.

  22. Looks like the biggest bargains were the leaf spring for $25 and the food on the grill. Thanks for the pics.:)

Thanks! It was only $20 and I am hoping it will help me land an acting role in the "Every Which Way but Loose" movie series if Clint Eastwood ever decides to remake them. Maybe I could chase after that crazy Sondra Locke chick with my horns.....:D

Even though I didn't buy much stuff, it was a good day hanging out with Frank and Cindy, visiting with Hamb friends and I even stopped at Lawrence, KS on the way home where my son "Poverty Flats, Jr." is a political science major at the University of Kansas. We shared a dinner of BBQ and good conversation.

Paul, thanks for getting those pictures on the web site so soon. You take much better pictures than we do. We truly enjoyed spending the morning with you. Went to the Geezer Drags in KC when we left you. Stayed too late and ran right into a terrible storm. But we made it home safe with our little swap meet purchases in tow. It was 91 degrees in KC and only 50 degrees in Lincoln Nebraska. Thanks again, GrouchySS and Swap Meet Cindy.

Sadly, much like his Idol the "King" ---- Fritz appeared to be harboring some type of "addictive" substance in this thermos shown in this photo. ;) <center>

Well, PF, once again we were at the same place, same time. I got there about 6:15. Shoot me a PM next time you're headed to KC, willya? I'd have bought you a breakfast hot dog. :D

I scored a good-condition used Edelbrock Performer 750 with electric choke for $100. Made it worth spending the morning. Also a few odds and ends of other things that I needed.
