gday i was just wondering if anyone had pics of a car that was on rides once it was a flat yellow model t coupe and it was called bad news
That's one of those cars that I would really like to see detailed and finished out a little more... Really good thought went into the construction and overall look of the car. I think if it would be amazing to see completed a little more...
Aaron does plan on finishing it more in the future, and the build is first class (like the work Sam does). I have shot a feature on it and want to do a little more photography with it. Scream a little here that you would like to see it on the cover and in R&C as soon as possible and I'll pass it on.
Aaron's had that body for over 30 years and just has a hard time covering up that patina for sentimental reasons. I can understand that. It's a well built hot rod that's solid as a rock. The Chopper's hope more people notice that while their cars have the "attitude" they do not have the "crappier than yours" mentality. Tons of work in the parts you don't immediately see, but the more you look the more impressed you'll be.
I'm not just suckin up to "the man" or anything, but I strongly AGREE here being a "T" fan I'm a bit disapointed with the state this car's left in. I have the episode saved on my DVR and watch it from time to time when there's nothing else on. In the episode you see keith weezner(spelling?) say that they all some day plan to have paint and upolstery(spelling?) on their cars, but why have Van stripe and letter a car if you still plan to paint it? the car was right on perfect; stance, wheels, engine, It just has so much more potential than the way it was left. Other than that I love it, possibly one of my favorite some day. We all say "I hate the term Rat Rod", but stuff like that just fuels the fire. Traditional doesn't have to be shitty(not intended for this perticular car, just a general statment). JMO. Sorry for the rant this just seemed like a good post to get somthing off my chest thats been bothering me for awhile. Laters. Drew
dont suppose anyone out there has a copy of that show they might wanna part with......we`ve got `rides` showing over here but that episode hasn`t been on or if it has I`ve missed it Tim
Tim, I've got it. HAMB'er CharlieLed did me a copy on DVD. PM your address to me and I'll try and get a copy burned for you.
These cars...makes my teeth hurt just lookin' at 'em. It's finally startin' to really get rollin', this hot rod thing. I think the '50s and '60s were just practice. GODDAMN.
Yes Jim, but he didnt have a hard time "re-patinaing" where they chopped the car. Is it any different adding fake patina over a chop or adding new paint over the whole car? Just thoughts, not comdemming the guy. I dig the car and agree with Ryan, I would love to see it finished up. But for now, I bet he is having a gas with it. On another note, that car and the RIDES episode it was on didnt do the hobby justice in one way. Guys will watch it thinking they can slam a cheapie together for $500. Even with trades, freebies etc, all of these cars cost in money and tears. They only difference in the size of the game is the # of zeros at the end.
Yes it is, you are right. I would like nothing better than to see scores of early hotrods on the road by firsttimers. But the fact is, TV doesnt show the blood, sweat and tears (and money and/or ingenuity) that it takes to get a rod on the road. That and the fact that 1 hour on TV cant show the countless hours that group slaved over that killer little T. For the record, we have a 20 year old dude at the shop. He talked his dad out of a nice T coupe body that was ratholed 20 years ago. We happen to be helping him build a very similar car. His old man (who owns the local Speed shop) cant understand why the car will get a flathead when a hot new injected smallblock would be faster. THe kid dug this episode and that car. So, yes he was inspired and I am glad to lend him a hand.
I think the outside is perfect. I watch that episode whenever I need some hot rod inspiration. I would like to at least see the inside finished more. You know... little things like a full floor. I look forward to the article!
What you just don't get is that he's had this body longer than some of the people making comments have been alive. In his mind he's built the car a million times and right now the body still looks like the body he played in as a kid. Unlike A LOT of cars that are built to be crappy looking with no plans of EVER being finished their is a plan beyond the current state of the car which at this still working out some of the bugs (the radiator has been an issue) and he probably hasn't had it on the road 10 times. Sorry T-Man but not everyone builds a finished & painted car from scratch on the first go round- That honor is saved for "chainers" like you and Boyd.
Does that mean we have no right to an opinion of our own? Or don't know what a good looking car is? I don't remember anyone saying they DIDN'T like the car, and its not like its your anyway. Drew
Nope, it's not mine. Just relating why it's not a finished car out of the box. 1. He's had it a long time. 2. This is the shake down version of a recently BUILT car. You can have all the opinions you want and say it sucks ass- I really don't care. I was just relating what I KNOW- not what I feel someone else should do with THEIR car. And befofore it was actually driven it did have finished floor boards, and much more most "rat rods" do not. I will try and refrain from adding factual information and leave it up to pure conjecture as that seems more acceptable when talking about other people's cars.
I fear disagreeing with the boss, but I tend to disagree here. The car is perfect as is. However I do belive that it should be "finished" in the sence that it should be a runner ( by that i mean all mechanical bugs worked out), and yes, I like floors as well, but the current look is so dead on cool..
