great time yesterday....alterboys are a cl*** act....good seeing some friends old and new alike.

I didnt see Jim Goves '36 3w and thought of it driving home yesterday....did he sell it, or is he painting it, or what? Maybe I missed it completely yesterday...

Yes, Dave Simard's 3W was un-real. That car certainly had all the right stuff for sure...

    I don't think Jim's 36 has a kids seat in it, yet!

I talked to the young guy that owns this car (first pic). He handmade the body from the cowl back. Looked dam good. It's amazing what he did.
In the second pic, my buddy stops Fred Steele (behind the wheel) and finally meets hid childhood inspiration. Fred is 75 yrs old and still going strong.

  8. Thank you again Rebecca for the stellar picture taking you performed yesterday.
I hope the oil leak Gods smile on you and make that nuisance leak disappear on you real soon.
You did a fine job keeping the oil from flowing into Lake Cochituate with your Hazmat style mop up in the parking lot.

Next we gotta keep our eyes peeled out for a set of pontoons for your plane.
It would be soooooooo cool for you to arrive next year ,casually sliding up on the beach with your plane (with no oil leaking of course.)
Flash bulbs would be popping over that one!

    Jim

I don't think that it would be possible to fit my plane with pontoons (and certainly not legally). That would be cool but it is not going to happen.

Until only a few weeks ago I thought that my oil leak was ****** gear oil (not small fix). However, I now realize that it is the engine rear main seal (not as big a job). I should be able to do this soon.

The bigger problem is my noisy front shocks (and lack of rear shocks). The front shock links (which are not serviceable are the source of the problem). I need to find some new ones or rebuild the old ones. In the rear I am changing the type of shocks and should have that done soon (then my coupe will not make those embarr***ing noises). Probably won't have time to do it before events this fall.

I have spent so much time on one of my other cars this summer that I have neglected to attend to to the others.

Rebecca, It was nice to meet and talk with you. When you say you don't have rear shocks, do you mean not at all, or they are just not working? I have the original lever shocks left over from my 36, they may need a rebuild to be used, but they should bolt right in to your 36. Bob

I have the original lever arm shocks. They are missing the shock links. However, the spring perches that I have don't have the stock shock link mount points (I think that they are wrong). Do you have the stock shock links. I might want to look at them. I was planning on drilling a hole in the frame and mount tube shocks instead.

    Thanks,
    Rebecca

Rebecca, The lower attachment point is just an extra hole on the flat plate that the U-bolts hold the springs with (it looks like an attachment point for a sway bar). The end of the shock arm has the round hole to accept the end of the link. The links are like a standard sway bar link, that is a long bolt (threaded rod in a pinch), with a tube/spacer in the middle and the bushing/grommits with washers on the ends. These links can be purchased or made or improvised to get a good length.
When I've converted to tube shocks, I've modified the lower plate for the stud off the side as the lower attachment point, and used a piece of 2X2 tube to make a bolt in crossmember that fits in front of the gas tank, but behind the axle, to attach the upper end of the shocks. This allows the shocks to be canted inwards at the top. On my cars, this crosmember now also serves as the attachment point for the sway bar, and the lower end of the sway bar now attaches to what originaly was the lower shock mount on the spring plate.
If you want to PM me, I can send you a link to my flickr pictures of my current coupe, and maybe dig up some pictures of this set up. Bob
