There was a Barris '49 or '50 Chevy with an extremely beautiful fabricated grille in one of the first issues -- maybe THE first issue -- of Hop Up (Aug '51) and of course it would appear in Mark Morton's reprint of the first year of Hop Up. The grille was just two horizontal bars made of large diameter tubing (maybe 2" or 2.5"), bent slightly to match the curve of the front end. Each tube had a cylindrical light at each end -- 4 lights in all -- which were just flush extensions of the tubes themselves. The two bars were floated in an opening changed only slightly from stock (a flare around everything, as I recall). Maybe somebody can post a picture of this car?

That Chev is really coming along!
My next ride I'm thinking I'll try more metalwork, or rather patchwork and doorskins, less filler work, although it was worth it to learn filler work this time around.
But the arms are asking to me learn to weld. [IMG]
Nice work, so far! What are yer additional plans?
BTW- what's the rodding scene in Belfast like?

Hahahaha, I couldn't resist that little dig there.

Actually three of my Great Grandpa's came from Ireland. O'Riardan, Wilson, and McGrath. The McGrath from Waterford, Wilson from Londenderry, and O'Riardan was an orphanage runaway and we don't know where he came from originally. He dropped the O' and just went by Riardan because when he came over, the Irish were treated worse than the Blacks. I guess he thought that would hide his nationality...

Your Car looks like its coming along. Did Chevy sell cars over there? Or did somebody import it on their own?

Heres one that was in Rod&Custom. Add Primer and Steelies and you'll have a slick HAMB car....

Some exhaust tubing, straights and bends welded to hood and fenders for a grill surround. Chrome exhaust tubing for a floating grill.

Allways enjoy looking at your pics - not enough customs in UK.
How about if you do a tube grille with vertical bars like a Buick or Bi-concave (?) like a Mk 3 Zephyr - More work, but looks like your not afraid of a bit of hard graft !

If you need a buick grill Adam Sayers (Tris R Us) heard of a '55 roadmaster that got used in a demolition derby [IMG]
He mentioned it had alot of the chrome work, might be worth a call....

AFAIK Chevy never sold cars here ( well in England anyway.. ) everything is imported. There are more and more cars coming out of South Africa to here nowadays, they are mostly right hand drive..

Another one, might cost a bit more. These kitchen drawer knobs can add up.

Mikes51 - That exhaust tubing around the fender and hood looks killer - I was thinking of doing something similar to surround the grille on my 50 chevy... I'm just waiting to find or fabricate the right grille first!

You're a brave man. The car looks great, especially parked outside so's you can see all the lines.
It's got great lines and great lines make a great Kustom.

Great lines there. First time I've seen a pic from the side. Also from the pic, looks like "it's really brightening up today".
