I've got a customer who is trying to register a '49 Chevy Pick Up but there is no vin tag on the truck.. I all ready know it doesn't have any frame numbers.. But there might be some hope that the engine block is still the same.. where are the engine numbers located?

I can produce a "plate" that looks perfect if you can find the numbers anywhere.

This should be on a reference note somewhere. GM vehicles used engine numbers as VIN until 1955 in most states as did Chrysler and others. If the original engine is gone, your VIN is gone too. There were tags for body serial numbers on the floor of some models, but they weren't used as VIN, and the data tags on the cowl are not specific to the car, just to the model and year.
