Got a 39 flathead in my 28 roadster without cutting the firewall. Just enough room for the football dizzy.i want to run the stock hood.looking to see how you guys got a mechanical fan in front of the radiator.all the other parts are pre 49, i really don't want an electric fan.

just use a 34-37 generator( preferably a 37 because it is a 2 brush instead of a 3) with the fan mount generator pulley. you may have to mess with the fan belt lenght to get it centered between the rad hoses and the dist. that should work just fine. what distributor are u running?

I agree. Thats the distributor and fan I am using. It Just fits it there. I didnt cut the firewall either. Mine is a '46 engine with the stock distributor in it..... For now.

  5. I have a 39 generator and fan, I trimmed about 3/4 off the blades. I marked the blades for cutting by rigging a strut straight up vertical from the cross-member that had a sharpie marker installed through a hole, I spun the fan by hand and drew a nice line on each blade where it was to be trimmed.

  6. The standard generator for 1937 was a 3 brush. There were a few special purpose and a few experimental 2 brush generators in 1937 but you are not likely to find them (ref "The 1937 Ford Book" from the early Ford V8 Club). The one you need is a 1938-39 that carries part number 81A-10000D, or E. I believe these fit only the standard model in 1939 but I am not sure. I think MACS is making the special pulley that makes these generators unique (with this pulley you can mount a fan on the front of a later generator). Also note that there are different length fans available as measured from the front of the blade to the rear of the hub. The Green Bible shows the different lengths. I think the '33 to '36 was the shortest available but the dimension is not listed.
