was wondering who was running traction bars or ladder bars ..the good the bads i have major wheel hop when getting on the car off the line ...
G'day, We went from regular snubber type traction bars to Caltracs with a multileaf rear axle. The car hooks up great now. We run 9.80's with a 28.0 by 10.50 tire. The ot car picks up the left front tire now and just goes straight. ms
I run ladder bars with coilovers. It's a street car so the handling isn't so good. A 4 link would be better for a street car. If it's the car in your avatar, I ran lakewood ******* bars on my '55. Worked great and handled good. I would have used Caltracs but they didn't have them in those days.
be careful with traction bars, they will **** up a cat, then you have to hose the little kitty off when you get up the next morning. it is much better to just run them over with the tires and be done with it.. no muss, no fuss.
thats what im trying ot avoid the floors are mint under this car so i dont want to smash or dent anything . as far as cats i hate them anyway ...
I ran ******* bars ($19.95 Lakewoods) on my '57 back in the mid 80s...they helped a lot with traction, but they also bent my LH leaf spring. Looking back, they were far too short for the application. I'd run a set of Cal Tracs now, or make my own.
i run lakewood *******s. Helps with axle wrap and actually plants the rearend instead of the wheel hop i was getting.
I'm just making it sound worse then what it is. Theres just u joint marks where the pinion like to nibble at the tunnel . Guess I should at least put the rear snubber back.
most "generic" universal fit traction bars will have little to no effect. buy a set that's made for your car and you will be okay, i think you can still buy Lakewoods or Compe***ion Engineering for specific fit. the other thing is that tons of people are taking stuff like that off cars everyday and tossing it in the trash because it aint cool no more so keep your eyes peeled. traction bars or ******* style bars more specifically should be long enough that the rubber snubber is under the front spring eye, not behind it. Southside Machine used to make some bars that worked killer but man they make the rear suspension stiff. those bars clamp to the front part of the spring and use spacers to preload the springs but it's that clamping that makes the front part of the spring rigid with the back half the only flexy part. i've used a few styles and think the Compe***ion Engineering set with the J-hooks work the best. i've never had any of the Cal-Tracs but they seem to work awesome.
I hunted for and finally found a set of Ansen Ground Grabbers here on the HAMB. Look them up in the search area. Pricey but from what I've read they are awesome!! I paid something like $125 for my set.
I had *******s on the coupe for some four years. Made a difference but the ride was harsh. Ran a best 60 foot of 1.98 with them. Switched to a homemade set of caltracs a couple of years ago. MUCH better ride and a best 60 foot of 1.76.
Built my own version of the old Traction Masters. You can still buy them for various cars. They don't hook up as well as Cal Tracs but they sure straightened out my launch and stopped wheel hop.
i orderd the ones from lakewood ...they look good and ill get another pair of new air shocks like the orig**** gabrail air that are in it already
these are what im using on my falcon. i run a manual trans and drag radials. no wheel hop. good hard launches. http://www.virginiacl***icmustang.com/65-66-REAR-TRACTION-BAR-KIT-P5194.aspx
cant afford a back half .. im just using what i can afford im shure they will do what i need them to do ..
I run custom built traction bars on my '67 Camaro, totally solved my wheel hop issues (400hp 4-spd) and run custom ******* bars on my '33 Ford Coupe that hit right under the spring eye (525 hp-5 spd) totally stopped wheel hop (although it will still smoke it up pretty good if I'm not careful). Overall they're cheap and easy to build and do the job well.
Competion Engeering ******* bars, super stock style leaf springs, 11.5 x 28 tires and a 4 speed. 20 years ago! I figure it'll still work today
