This is my first post since my introduction post 5 years ago. I plan on coming around here more often. So I hope you enjoy the pics of my GMC 270. It has a custom intake we built with 3 1954 Carter YH carbs. Hope you enjoy the pics.
So far there is no story on the internals. We just cleaned it up and gave it new gaskets in anticipation of tearing it down again when we put an H head on it this winter. The engine runs surprising well, not a problem yet.
something about hearing, saying or reading the terms '270 Jimmy', or '302 Jimmy' just quickens the pulse. Yeah...the stovebolt is venerable, and sbcs are ubiquitous, but them "Big Brother" sixes are just awesome in every respect. When I was in HS (early 60s), there were a couple of 270s and a 302 that pretty much ruled the roost street racing in the late 50s and for awhile into the 60s. What a sound...... dj
As far as adapting the trans you need to get a custom made adapter plate and flywheel. We had ours built by Buffalo Enterprises, its some really nice old timer out of Washington State that makes them by hand. As far as I know, he is the only one who makes them. Here is his link. http://www.inliners.org/buffalo/index.htm
